If I spot a problem before we start, Iโ€™ll always tell the client.

My job is to explain what Iโ€™ve found, what could happen if we leave it, and what I recommend. Then the client decides whether we fix it or leave it as it is.

For me, itโ€™s important that the client knows exactly what theyโ€™re dealing with before we carry on.

This is one of the problems with renovation โ€“ once everything is finished, you canโ€™t see whatโ€™s underneath.

When we opened up this floor, we found a problem that could have easily been covered up and forgotten about. And unfortunately, we do come across things like this on renovation jobs.

A few centimetres might not look like a big deal, but with flooring it matters. We could carry on and make everything look nice on top, but thatโ€™s not how we work. If we find a problem, we sort it properly before moving on.

Back from a few client visits today, and it got me thinkingโ€ฆ

After all these years working in the UK, I thought Iโ€™d seen almost everything. But British tradesmenโ€™s creativity still manages to surprise me.

Sometimes I look at what we find during renovations and genuinely thinkโ€ฆ how did someone even come up with this?

Itโ€™s easy to focus on whatโ€™s happening inside your home, but the outside needs attention too. ๐ŸŒฟ

Overgrown trees and plants growing too close to the house can damage brickwork, trap moisture and eventually lead to costly repairs.

A little regular maintenance can prevent a much bigger problem later.
