πͺπͺ 8 windows, 2 doors, huge gaps β and all they had was a bead of silicone! π³π·
Once we stripped the old mastic and trim away, we found large gaps all around the frames. Across the tops, the trim was simply stuck on with double-sided tape, leaving another huge void behind it.
Silicone isnβt insulation. It provides very little thermal insulation itself β its job is to seal the edges, not fill large cavities.
𫧠Foam fills the void β helping insulate around the frame and reducing cold air moving through the gaps.
π Proper window and door trim covers and protects the joint β giving everything a neat, durable finish.
π Silicone seals the edges β helping keep everything weatherproof and securely finished.
Three different jobs. Three layers working together. πͺ
The silicone shouldnβt be trying to fill a massive cavity. The foam fills it, the trim finishes it, and the silicone seals it. π§
We stripped everything back, foam filled the gaps, fitted the trim properly and sealed everything to the brickwork and frames.
The difference is huge. π€―
Better sealed. Better insulated. Better protected β helping keep the heat in and your money from disappearing out through the gaps. π₯π·
8 windows and 2 doors properly sorted β not just covered up. πͺπͺπ§
