A British naval agent tried to buy this oak tree in 1805 for £100 to build warships for Lord Nelson's fleet during the Battle of Trafalgar.

When the owner refused, the agent returned the next day and offered "100 guineas" (£105).

The owner replied: "Any tree that increases in value by £5 overnight is too valuable an investment to lose" and refused to sell.

It's called the Hundred Guinea Oak, and it's still standing today at The Vyne. Absolute legend. 🌳
