This month we're celebrating the fantastic venues that help make Luton a safe, welcoming and enjoyable place for a night out, and today we're shining a spotlight on Metro Bar & Kitchen .

Located within the University of Bedfordshire campus, Metro offers something for everyone. During the day, the Metro Kitchen is the perfect place to relax with a Starbucks coffee, grab a snack, enjoy a freshly prepared meal, or catch up with friends in a comfortable and welcoming setting.

When the sun goes down, Metro Bar comes alive with a packed programme of events throughout the year. Looking for a fun and free activity to keep the children entertained this October half term? Head to Frasers Plus Luton for a week packed with spooky surprises, creative crafts and family-friendly Halloween fun from 11am to 3pm.

Children can enjoy a variety of FREE Halloween craft activities, get creative with bat-themed workshops, and take part in the much-loved Giant Trick-or-Treat Takeover, where stores transform into trick-or-treat stops around the shopping centre. ๐Ÿฌ๐ŸŽƒ

There'll also be free face painting, glitter tattoos and a glitter bar, plus plenty of opportunities to show off those Halloween costumes!

With activities running throughout the week, Frasers Plus Luton is the perfect place for families to get into the Halloween spirit without spending a penny.

๐Ÿšง Emergency Water Works Now Underway: Key Information for Businesses ๐Ÿšง

Emergency water works on Chapel Street and part of Stuart Street are now underway and are expected to continue for up to six weeks. We recently met with the Affinity Water project team to discuss the programme, the measures being put in place to support businesses, and how disruption will be managed throughout the works.

The project team has confirmed that Castle Street will not be closed at the same time as these works, helping to minimise disruption across the town centre.

Businesses in the affected area should be aware that while access will be maintained where possible, deliveries may be impacted for up to six weeks. Affinity Water has already distributed letters and information leaflets to affected businesses and will continue to provide regular communications and updates throughout the project.

Importantly, businesses remain open and trading as usual during the works. Clear diversion routes and directional signage have been installed, together with notices highlighting that local businesses continue to welcome customers. These measures are designed to help visitors navigate the area and maintain confidence in accessing the town centre.

To support businesses and members of the public throughout the project, Elaine, Affinity Water's dedicated Community Liaison Officer, will be available in the on-site welfare office every other day to answer questions and provide assistance.

Access arrangements remain in place for Wesley House, and a dedicated ambulance access route has been established. Other than these provisions, the affected section of the road will remain closed for the duration of the works.

During our meeting, we also raised concerns regarding vehicles entering the closure area and then struggling to turn around, which has resulted in some unsafe manoeuvres. We have suggested a minor adjustment to the positioning of the closure point to help reduce confusion and improve safety for both pedestrians and motorists.

We will continue to liaise closely with Affinity Water and will keep businesses informed of any significant developments as the works progress. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to continue supporting town centre businesses, which remain open and ready to welcome customers.

Luton town centre businesses can now apply for up to ยฃ2,000 through the Luton BID Shopfront Grant Scheme, delivered in partnership with the The Culture Trust Luton , to help improve the appearance, accessibility and overall appeal of their premises.

Whether you're looking to refresh your shopfront, install new signage, improve accessibility, or enhance your business frontage, the scheme is designed to support projects that contribute to a more attractive and welcoming town centre.

With a limited funding pot available, applications will be assessed on a first-come, first-served basis, so businesses are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ‘ป Get ready for some spooky family fun this half term!

Luton BID will be supporting Forward Lutonโ€™s Pumpkin Patch in Hat Gardens on 28 October, with a free Halloween mask-making craft session for children and families to enjoy.

The creative workshop will be led by local artist Mary Hearne, who will help young visitors bring their Halloween creations to life. Whether you're making a scary monster, a mischievous pumpkin or a spooky witch, there'll be plenty of opportunities to get creative and have fun.

Join us between 10am and 4pm to create your own Halloween mask before exploring everything else the Pumpkin Patch has to offer. It's the perfect way to get into the Halloween spirit and enjoy a day out in Luton town centre.
