A reminder never to leave devices charging unattended!

Our firefighters were called to a house fire in Marston Moreteyne after a massage gun was left charging while nobody was at home 😱

Fortunately, the homeowner returned during the early stages of the fire and was able to put it out. A closed bedroom door helped prevent the fire and smoke from spreading further.

Rechargeable devices can pose a serious risk if they are damaged, faulty or incorrectly charged.

To stay safe:

- Avoid charging devices while asleep or out of the house
- Always use the correct charger for your device
- Charge devices on hard and flat surfaces.
- Unplug devices once fully charged
- Never use damaged batteries or chargers

If a fire occurs, get out, stay out, call 999 and ask for the fire service 🚒

We tested 15 phone chargers from 7 online marketplaces.
The results were alarming:
⚡NINE posed a risk of electric shock
🔥EIGHT posed a risk of fire and exploding
🚫NONE met UK safety requirements

These marketplaces cannot claim ignorance – we’ve been flagging concerns around knock-off chargers for the best part of a decade, yet consumers are still being placed at risk.

The government must urgently use the new powers it has under the Product Regulation and Metrology Act to ensure online marketplaces are held accountable for unsafe products – and take action against those that fail to comply.
