Accidents happen. A minor misjudgement in the driveway left this bay window with cracked external render.

When an impact fractures the outer coat, water ingress becomes the immediate risk. Moisture gets behind the substrate, freezes, and causes wider delamination across the elevation if left unaddressed.

To rectify this, we carried out a clean hack-off of the damaged area back to sound masonry, prepared the substrate, and completed external rendering repairs using a traditional plain face OCR render finish. Because the house was in the process of being sold, the priority was delivering a neat, clean, and structurally sound repair to ensure complete weather protection for the sale.

Getting rained off an external silicone rendering site does not mean taking a day off.

Rain simply pivots the schedule indoors to tackle internal repairs like this ceiling re-board and skim.
A lasting repair requires mechanical support and joint preparation, not just spreading plaster over damaged board. Secure fixings into sound timber joists, full scrim taping, and a feathered two-coat skim leave the surface crisp, flat, and integrated into the surrounding ceiling.

From raw brickwork to a finished focal point.

A look across a few different tinted silicone topcoat finishes completed on recent external rendering projects over the last few months.
When planning an external rendering project, selecting the right shade is key, but understanding where that colour sits is just as important. The underlying polymer basecoat pass always remains uniform to provide core structural flexibility and crack resistance, while the colour action sits entirely within the final silicone topcoat layer.
Because the silicone topcoat layer itself is through-coloured, the pigment runs right through the full depth of that weatherproofing skin. Unlike traditional painted render where a small surface scratch exposes a raw line beneath, a through-pigmented topcoat holds its finish and keeps the elevation looking crisp and pristine over time.

Carrying out an external rendering repair on a small panel in Ludlow.
The localised cracking on this section was caused by decorative external timbers warping and putting pressure on the surrounding render.
When carrying out micro render repairs, achieving an exact shade match with a different brand topcoat is a common challenge. Because the panel was so small, buying a full tub of topcoat that covers 10m² wasn't cost-effective for the client, so we opted to use existing stock that was a close match.
Because of that subtle shade difference, attempting to blend local patch edges into the surrounding wall wouldn't look right. Instead, we patched the damaged areas first, then applied a Decorend wheat-coloured silicone topcoat across the entire small panel. Coating right to its natural edges bounds the colour cleanly, giving the client a sharp finish without forcing an unnecessary full-elevation rework.
