A great visit to SOLUS HQ in Birmingham following last week’s show. Fabulous interior & exterior products, inspiring finishes & endless possibilities for bespoke design. Always a pleasure discovering products that can make a real difference to a project. 👌

A fantastic morning at in Birmingham, where I was delighted to be invited as a guest to see their new showroom & explore some of their beautiful collections.

It was a great opportunity to catch up with some familiar faces, meet some new ones & see some exciting materials that could bring something really special to future projects.

And a real pleasure to finally meet properly!

Guy is one of the UK’s leading bespoke luxury property developers, known for creating some seriously impressive superhomes & more recently taking his work into Monaco & the South of France. He’s also the face of Channel 4’s Building Britain’s Superhomes & Building Monaco. (Guy Phoenix)

More importantly, he was a genuinely great guy to meet — down to earth, straight-talking & with a great sense of humour.

Days like this are a big part of what I love about what I do. Keeping connected, discovering new ideas & materials, and building relationships with talented people across the industry — all of which ultimately helps me bring more knowledge, creativity & choice to my clients.

Thanks to the team at for a brilliant morning. 👌

An old apple orchard planted by my grandfather around 70 years ago — and thankfully, very little has changed.

No chemicals. No manicured lawns. Just old apple trees, long grass, wildflowers, insects, birds and all the life that comes with allowing nature to do what it does best. 🐝🦋🐞

The grass beneath the trees is deliberately left to provide habitat and food for wildlife, creating a little ecosystem that has evolved over generations.

There’s something pretty special about a garden that doesn’t just look beautiful…

…it belongs to nature too. 🌿

And perhaps that’s the real meaning of sustainable garden design — not trying to control every inch, but knowing when to leave well alone.

Not seen these before, but how cool are they? A great invention for keeping your cat safe in your garden 🐈‍⬛

Small courtyard gardens are what many wish for…. & why not as they offer just as much interest as a larger garden - sometimes a lot more👌🏻💯 ….just sometimes trickier to design & fit everything in without it looking too busy…. Planting 🌳to follow in a couple of weeks…..

Chelsea Flower Show shut down - just stepping outside of the show venue with a view that many don’t get to see. 18 months of hard work & within 2 weeks this whole area will be green lawns again!

Whilst we didn’t show this year - Designing & Building are enough in themselves to create months worth of detailed planning & organising but the logistics at the end are equally as important - whilst some of the plants will have been sold off in the huge pavilion, the remainder will go back to the nurseries.

As for the show gardens these will be carefully dismantled & will go to a new home - one where they can be appreciated by their new owners for years to come. This wasn’t always the case in years gone by but with recycling & renewables being at the top of everyone’s list the & all its other shows lead the way in promoting sustainability within our industry. coming next!!

10 Years on….. & it’s open garden day!! It’s not until you go back do you get the real picture that was in your designers eye all those years ago - such a privilege to revisit - same clients but not a building site anymore - here’s to the next 10 years…

A simple garden design tip but maximum impact…Less is always more — especially in open spaces.

Simplicity creates strength, structure, and timeless elegance.

For this driveway design, the circular feature firmly anchors an otherwise irregular space, bringing balance, order, and flow to the layout. The further step detail echoes and accentuates the circle, reinforcing the geometry in the same carefully chosen materials.

The Bredon gravel was selected alongside natural sandstone paving and cobbles because they marry beautifully with the existing stonework of the house, creating a seamless and sympathetic palette throughout.

Strong design doesn’t need to shout — when materials, form, and space work together naturally, the result speaks for itself.
