* βœ‚οΈ Cut back selectively β€” remove anything collapsed, diseased or particularly untidy, but leave attractive seed heads and grasses for autumn/winter interest and wildlife.

* 🍎 Harvest β€” apples, pears, late tomatoes, courgettes, beans and other remaining crops.
* 🌿 Sort the lawn β€” scarify, aerate, reseed bare patches and apply an autumn lawn feed if needed.

* πŸ‚ Start clearing fallen leaves from lawns and paths, although leaves in beds and tucked-away areas can provide useful wildlife habitat.

* πŸͺ΄ Sort your pots β€” remove finished summer annuals and replace them with autumn/winter planting such as cyclamen, heuchera, grasses, violas and small evergreens.

* 🧹 Clean and reorganise β€” greenhouse, tools, pots and growing areas can all get a tidy before autumn really arrives.

🌷 Start planting spring bulbs β€” daffodils, crocuses, alliums and hyacinths can go in now. Tulips are usually better left until November.

* 🌸 Deadhead flowering plants β€” dahlias, roses and other late bloomers can keep flowering well into autumn.

* 🌱 Divide overcrowded perennials β€” September is a great time to lift and divide established plants while the soil is still warm.
* 🌳 Plant shrubs and perennials β€” warm soil + increasing rainfall makes early autumn a brilliant planting period.

* 🌾 Collect seeds β€” save dry seed heads from favourite flowers for next year.

Sometimes our work is about more than just gardens. Last week i helped a customer by clearing their late father's overgrown garden and cutting back the hedge that was blocking the pavement. I am glad i could make things a little easier during a difficult time.
