What sits behind them:
Last month one of our engineers reached a fridge call-out and found the fan motor at burn temperature. He stopped, made it safe, put in writing why he wasn’t stripping it, and returned once it had cooled. That cost us a second visit. It is still the right call, every time.
Every isolation locked out and tagged — LOTO — with a name on the tag and a time against it. That’s what a safety culture looks like when nobody’s watching.
And we train our own. Apprentices on live jobs alongside qualified engineers, which is where this trade gets learned.
The certificates describe that. They don’t create it.

Offshore support vessel, Great Yarmouth.
Called in over a suspected mould deposit in the ductwork. Team attended alongside in coveralls, masks, goggles, gloves and hard hats, sampled the deposit and filter media under chain of custody, and inspected the plant while we had access.
Three things look identical in a photograph — mould, verdigris off a corroding coil, or oil mist — so we’re not calling it until the lab reports.
What we could confirm on the day is that the main AHU and the existing air conditioning aren’t keeping up with the heat load in the ROV control room, and the whole system is being driven by that one space. We’ve put a dedicated high sensible cooling split forward to serve the control room on its own, sized to the actual equipment load rather than guessed at.
Samples are away. Findings and the proposal picked up when she next berths.

Commercial fridge not holding temperature. In a kitchen that’s a stock problem before it’s an equipment problem — product sitting outside its safe range, and a cabinet you can’t load until it’s fixed.
Cause was the condenser fan. Blade had come loose on the shaft and was running out of balance, choking airflow across the coil and overheating the motor.
Too hot to handle safely, so we isolated it and returned once cooled. New motor and blade fitted, coil and drip tray cleaned, cabinet pulled back down to setpoint and verified before we left.
The fouling on that coil caused it. Quarterly PPM keeps the fridge holding temperature and the stock where it should be.
