🔧 A look inside one of our previous boiler upgrade projects.

Back in 2023, we replaced an oil boiler that had been in service since 2006 with a new Grant Vortex boiler, upgraded controls and a Grant MagOne system filter.

The MagOne filter helps protect the heating system by capturing debris and magnetite before it can circulate around the system, helping to improve efficiency and reduce wear on components.

Alongside the new boiler, the installation included neatly routed copper pipework and system upgrades designed to support reliable performance for years to come.

While most people only see the boiler itself, it’s often the details behind the scenes that make the difference.

💡 HEAT PUMP MYTH BUSTER

One of the biggest misconceptions we hear is that a larger heat pump automatically means a warmer home.

In reality, a heat pump should be sized to match the property’s heat loss. Bigger isn’t always better.

Here’s a real example from a heat pump we installed in a 1987 ex-council home in Moray:

🏠 Property size: 137m²
🔥 Heat loss: 5.4kW
❌ No cavity wall insulation
❌ Not a new build

The solution?

✅ A 5kW Vaillant aroTHERM Plus heat pump

After monitoring the system through the winter months, the results were:

📉 Monthly energy costs reduced from £280 to £130
📉 Daily running costs reduced from £10 to £4.64
📉 53.5% reduction in energy bills

The heating system achieved a seasonal efficiency of 440%, while hot water averaged 350%.

The lesson?

Correct sizing, proper design and quality installation are what deliver comfort, efficiency and lower running costs.
