❄️ SEWCIETY SCHOOL WINTER TERM — BOOKINGS ARE NOW OPEN 🧵✨

Our next St Albans weekly sewing term starts this November, and spaces are already being booked!

This winter, our students won’t all be making the exact same thing. They’ll be able to choose a project they’re genuinely excited about and spend the term learning how to take it from an idea to a finished piece they can actually wear, use or be proud to say “I made that.” ❤️

For our children and teens, projects could include cosy hoodies and sweatshirts, pyjamas and lounge sets, skirts, trousers, winter layers, accessories, Christmas makes, upcycling and so much more.

Beginners are absolutely welcome, while returning students will continue building their skills, confidence and independence with more challenging projects.

There’s something so satisfying about seeing a project go from flat pattern pieces on the table to a finished garment that actually gets worn — and these trousers came out SO good.

This was one of our summer makes, but there are plenty more opportunities to sew with us coming up.

Look what one of our 8-year-old students made in our weekly sewing class 🥹🧵

She first started sewing with us through our holiday workshops, and it has been amazing seeing how much she has remembered and carried into our weekly classes.

She’s becoming more confident, more independent and already finished her first project with two sessions still to go! ✨

And honestly, this little bag is SO cute 🍂

Our classes are designed to give children and teens the freedom to make things they genuinely want to wear and use, while learning real sewing skills along the way.

🍁 We still have selected spaces available on our early autumn holiday workshops — ideal for children whose school holidays begin the week before the main half-term break.

Here’s a little look back at one of our previous Canary Wharf pyjama workshops — calm, creative and a lovely way to switch off for a few hours and make something with your own hands.

Our next Adult Sewing Course starts this Sunday and runs across 4 Sundays, giving you time to properly learn, practise and work towards completing something of your own.

Whether you’re a complete beginner, returning to sewing or already have some experience, you can work towards a project that feels personal to you — a garment you’d love to wear, something inspired by a piece you’ve seen, something for your home, or even a handmade gift.

You don’t need to know exactly what you want to make before you start. We can work through ideas together and choose something that suits your experience and what you’d like to achieve.

📅 27 September, 4 October, 11 October & 18 October
⏰ 2.5 hours each Sunday
💷 £265 for the full 4-week course

Sewing machines, equipment and practice materials such as calico are provided. For your final project, you’ll bring your own chosen fabric and any specific notions needed.

One catch-up class is also included if you’re unable to attend one of your sessions.

🧵✨ Another lovely day at Sewciety School! ✨🧵

Today our Tiny Sewists were busy creating their patterns and cutting out their fabrics, getting everything ready to start sewing their garments next week!

What I loved most today wasn’t just how focused they were on their projects, but how quickly they’ve all settled in together. They were chatting away, laughing, helping each other and sharing ideas — honestly, like a little group of grown-ups! 😂❤️

Everyone was so warm, encouraging and genuinely interested in what the others were making. It’s lovely watching them become more confident, make friends and get completely absorbed in the process of creating something themselves.

And the excitement for next week’s sewing was VERY real! 🥰🧵

If you’re seeing our classes and thinking, “Oh, I’ve missed this term” — don’t worry!

🍂 We’ll be running our Autumn Holiday Workshops in October, with fun sewing and fashion projects during the school holidays.

❄️ Then our Winter Weekend Classes will begin in November, so there will be another chance to join us for regular sewing sessions.

We’re very much getting into our autumn/winter creative mood now — think cosy projects, fashion, customisation, making and lots of sewing! 🧵🍂✨

This is what I love about sewing — they don’t just learn how to use a sewing machine, they get to take an idea, choose their fabric and turn it into something they can actually wear. 💕

🍂 AUTUMN HOLIDAY SEWING WORKSHOPS ARE NOW OPEN! 🧵

This October, The SewCiety School will be running a range of creative sewing workshops for children and teens in St Albans.

Whether they’re complete beginners or already love sewing, students can choose a workshop based on what they’d most enjoy making — from Halloween-inspired pieces and autumn fashion to dressmaking, customising and upcycling.

🍂✂️ Autumn Term is officially underway at The SewCiety School!

Week 1 is always about easing back into things — refreshing sewing machine skills, designing, choosing fabrics and starting to develop those first ideas.

I loved seeing how much the students were inspiring each other this week. Interestingly, quite a few of them decided they wanted to make bags 👜 and the deep indigo denim was definitely a favourite 👀💙

There’s already lots of experimenting with different textures and details too — faux fur, tartan, chains, trims and pockets — so I’m really excited to see how all of their ideas come together over the next few weeks.

One of my favourite things about these classes is that everybody doesn’t have to make the same thing. Students are encouraged to come up with their own ideas, choose their fabrics and details, and then learn the sewing and construction skills needed to actually bring those designs to life. ✨

And if you missed Week 1, it’s not too late to join us. Catch-up options are available for students joining the autumn term, so they can get settled in and up to speed.

I also support students who would like to use sewing and fashion as their Skills section for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. 🧵✨
