Stations of Production: Liminal Infrastructures

We will continue our hyper-local and hyper-hands-on approach to teaching. This year, Unit 5 investigates the railway station and its connection to town centre as a liminal space—a place of transition, encounter and memory, where infrastructure extends beyond movement to become a site of ritual, production and collective imagination.

Unit 5 is taught by Takeshi Hayatsu from Salah Krichen from 121.Collective and Tina Jadav from the GLA

Asagaya Workshop Day 7

An absolutely mind-blowing experience joining the local community to carry the Mikoshi through the streets of Asagaya.

After a week of observing, making and engaging with the neighbourhood, we were invited to join the procession and carry the shrine together with local residents.

A powerful final lesson in how care and empathy are shared across generations and embedded in everyday life.

Thank you to everyone who supported and helped make this incredible workshop happen. We hope to return next year to continue learning, making and contributing to Asagaya. 🙏

Made with local residents and festival visitors, the temporary field marked the entrance to the Kodō, and drew passers-by into the celebrations, becoming part of the annual Asagaya Shinmeigu Shrine festival.
