DOMstay founder, Marta Nowicka recently spoke with Victoria Brzezinski for The Times and Sunday Times about the story behind her approach to adaptive reuse and the renovation projects that have shaped her career, beginning with No. 16 Charles Square.

In 2005, Marta took on the derelict Grade II* listed building in Hoxton, transforming it into five individual homes while retaining the character and history of the original building. Almost two decades later, Charles Square remains an important part of her story but also, the story of London.

Now, as a new chapter for the building arises, a small number of the apartments are being offered for sale, giving new owners the opportunity to become part of its continuing history.

In her recent interview with Dezeen, DOMstay founder Marta Nowicka discusses the thinking behind her self-designed studio at Camber Sands and how this compact, year-round sanctuary has been shaped by its exposed coastal setting.

Built just 20 metres from the sea, the studio responds to the landscape through its curved form, while making use of recycled and upcycled materials throughout.

Built on a leftover 43-square-metre plot just 20 metres from the beach, its curved walls echo the surrounding topography. Constructed using recycled and upcycled materials, the studio is an exercise in making the most of what is already there and in allowing the landscape to shape the architecture.
