Based on my understanding of the application, work has started at Cheam Baptist Church on Park Road, with the old timber porch and foyer coming down for a new two-storey glazed entrance. Sutton granted the scheme last year (DM2025/00811); bronze fins and stone-coloured panels are meant to give the church a clearer, more accessible arrival point.

Sutton has approved 20 houses on the old Denmark Road council car park in Carshalton, which it sold last May after the site had sat empty for about five years.

All of them are family homes for sale: 13 with three bedrooms and seven with four. None are affordable, though the developer has to pay the council money to put towards affordable housing somewhere else in Sutton. All of this is based on my understanding of available documents.

The Sutton High Street McDonald’s is open again, and the inside is the obvious change: curved brown and orange booths, timber walls, pendant lights and a red circular feature. A closer look inside at the refreshed design, with ordering now more focused around the screens.

Cheam Bedding in Cheam Village appears to have closed. A note in the window from Ian Middleton thanks customers for their loyal support over the last 43 years and says his time helping them in Cheam Village has been “a very happy time.” He wishes them all the best for the future.
