Small addition, big difference 💡

“Like night & day”, literally!

Client requested additional lighting as had been reported that specific area was too dark and shadowy.

The Pepsi drinks counter was noticeably darker than the surrounding concession areas, with the illuminated signage providing very little light to the timber frontage, unlike the others with sufficient back lighting.

Rather than simply adding fixed downlights, I installed two adjustable tilt LED fittings, positioned and angled specifically to throw the available beam across the darker areas surrounding the signage.

A relatively simple installation, but one where fitting selection and positioning made the difference. Using adjustable fittings allowed the light output to be directed where it was actually needed rather than losing a large proportion of the beam directly below the fittings.

𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗨𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 & 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗶𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 ⚡

This job started as a fault investigation on an existing storage heater. Through testing and diagnosis, the fault was traced to a failed heating element.

Rather than replacing the element, the client decided to move away from Economy 7 heating and upgrade to a fully electric panel heater.

Works carried out included:

🔹 Isolation and removal of the existing storage heater.
🔹 Responsible disposal of the redundant unit.
🔹 Economy 7 circuit ready for a standard 24-hour supply once the electricity tariff is changed by the provider, allowing user control locally & via online app.
🔹 Installation of a new electric panel heater.
🔹 Replacement of the damaged local isolator and heat-affected cable with the correct isolation arrangement.
🔹 Full inspection, testing and certification on completion, including continuity, insulation resistance, earth fault loop impedance and RCD testing.

Another installation completed with safety, compliance and attention to detail from fault diagnosis through to final commissioning.

⚡️🔥 Sometimes the job isn’t finished just because the fault has gone.

This week we attended a fault on an immersion heater where the local isolator switch had failed. We then found the flex cable coming from the element to the switch was undersized and not heat resistant, this created thermal damage on the load terminals which resulted in melting the internal mechanism for the switch.

The damaged components were replaced and the heater was back up and running, but something about the installation still didn’t feel right for a 3kW heater.

Rather than walk away, we took the time to revisit the job, review the circuit arrangement and make further improvements to ensure the local isolation was more appropriate for the way the circuit was installed.

We changed over the 13A switched fused spur, the the correct accessory and we put in a 20A Double Pole switch.

Following the final visit:
✅ Correct isolator installed.
✅ Heat-damaged cable replaced.
✅ Full verification testing completed, including continuity, insulation resistance, Zs and RCD testing.
✅ Temperatures monitored under load, confirming the circuit is operating normally.

As electricians, it’s easy to focus on getting equipment working again. For me, it’s equally important to leave knowing the installation is safe and up to standard.

That’s the standard we aim to deliver on every job. It’s usually those quick “5 minute” jobs that uncover deeper issues.

A simple upgrade that makes a big difference. ✨

We recently upgraded an outdoor garden light from a candlelight lamped fitting to a new LED fog/security wall light with built in PIR, giving the rear garden a cleaner look, improved security, and plenty of light for those summer evenings. ✅⚡️

Some essential repairs carried out today on loading dock vehicle power stations. Around 18 damaged at this location of one of the UK’s leading supermarket chains in Aylesford, Kent.

Repairs consisted of, full changeovers, faceplates, replacement RCD’s & neons. Returning tomorrow to finish off, but a productive nonetheless to ensure a fully efficient area.

Was contacted to replace a wall-mounted towel rail heater in Medway, Kent.

On arrival, although the customer had supplied a new unit, it became clear the existing installation had underlying issues. The flex had been disconnected from the Switched Fused Connection Unit, which itself had been installed outside of permitted bathroom zones following recent works.

Further inspection identified thermal damage within the FCU, along with an over-rated 13A fuse. This indicated a fault within the existing heating element, with the incorrect fuse rating allowing the fault condition to persist longer than it should have.

Due to access limitations and to avoid unnecessary disruption, the decision was made to install a Unswitched Fused Connection Unit in a compliant configuration. Fuse changed to a 3A.

We will be returning to complete the installation with a new thermostatically controlled element, providing safe operation along with user control and improved energy efficiency.

Another example of why proper inspection and testing is critical — not all issues are visible at first glance.

Quick P1/C1 but important call out done this week in Erith ✅

Fridge socket damaged, exposed live cables, face plate & lugs shattered due to large commercial drinks vending fridge being moved and pushed too far back causing this dangerous situation.

On site within 30 minutes, new PVC backbox & faceplate replaced. Small but effective and no risk to staff on site now.
