Do + Co Architects DO+CO Architects is an award-winning architectural practice based in South London. Over 95% of our work comes from existing client referrals & recommendations.

Who we are…
Darren Oldfield Architects is a small award-winning architectural practice established in 2013 and based in West Dulwich

We work with…
A variety of clients including private homeowners, developers and small businesses. Our work is mainly in the residential sector, with construction budgets ranging from £100,000 to over £1,000,000. We believe that good architecture is collaborative a

nd shaped by positive relationships between clients, consultants and contractors. where our projects are… We undertake work all over London and the South East. What we do…
Our core aim is to design and deliver bespoke, carefully crafted buildings that are responsive to the environment, context and brief. We do not have a preconceived style to bring to your project, but an emphasis on light and volume is key to our design process. Light and space are fundamental human needs: even on the most constricted sites, we introduce plentiful natural light through our creative use of glazing & three-dimensional space. We place these concerns foremost through our focus on maintaining an ethical, sustainable approach to design and construction.

We’re looking for an Architect to join us in West Dulwich.

You’d be running residential projects from first conversation to final site visit. You’d have creative input on all of it.

Our Southfields House was shortlisted for a RIBA award this year, we’re working on a low-energy aparthotel in Peckham, and we were named a Dezeen Top Company for 2026.

We work a 37.5-hour week and mean it. We also close for two weeks over Christmas.

After two years everyone becomes eligible for our share scheme, so the people who build the practice can own part of it.

There’s coaching, funded training, enhanced family-friendly policies, menstruation leave, a plant-filled studio, and a dog called Alf.

We warmly encourage applicants who are underrepresented in architecture, particularly women, marginalised genders and global majority applicants. Jenny can arrange any adjustments you need during recruitment.

Applications close 14 August and we’re interviewing as they come in. Cover letter, CV and portfolio as a single PDF under 5MB to [email protected] – full details via the link in our bio.

What does sustainable design actually mean?

For many homeowners, sustainability immediately brings to mind solar panels, heat pumps, and energy ratings. But for us, it starts somewhere much simpler.

Good sustainable design is about creating homes that work better for everyday life. Homes filled with natural light. Homes that adapt as families grow and change. Homes that feel comfortable, healthy, and connected to nature.

As our Associate Director Rita Farrell explains:
“Good design is the most sustainable thing you can do.”

In this carousel, we’re unpacking what sustainable design really means in practice, and why the best sustainable homes are often the ones that simply feel better to live in.

Before and after at our Award shortlisted project in Southfields.

A blank brick wall.
Now, a rhythm of timber and glazing glowing onto the street.

A narrow, underused yard.
Now, a crafted brick and timber façade framing light, warmth and family life.

The images say it best. Careful brickwork. Honest timber. Light where there was once shadow. A home that still belongs to its Victorian context, but now lives very differently within it.

From former dairy to the Awards shortlist!

Southfields House began as a dated, compartmentalised corner shop in Wandsworth. Today, it’s a light-filled family home that we’re thrilled has made it onto the shortlist for the RIBA London Awards.

We rebuilt the rear of this Victorian terrace to open the plan and reconnect the house to its garden. A reconstructed brick wing sits alongside a timber-built infill extension.

Together, they honour the original design while introducing something contemporary and low carbon.

Inside, rooflights and a carefully placed picture window draw daylight deep into the home, turning what was once dark and disconnected into a generous kitchen and dining space at the heart of family life.

Sustainability shaped the project from concept to construction. Low-carbon timber structure, a green roof that supports biodiversity, high levels of insulation and a layout reliant on daylight all reduce energy use and enhance comfort.

It’s a project that truly reflects our belief that sustainable architecture should feel intuitive, natural and beautiful in daily life.

Thank you to the team and our brilliant clients; we’re absolutely thrilled with the result and the recognition of the RIBA.
