We are an award winning, London based Architectural practice set up in 1998 by Julian de Metz, Paul Forbes and Ben Knight. We currently employ 22 architects.

Our specialist area is working within and around existing buildings with projects ranging in size from £500k up to £10m. We work across a range of sectors including many Listed Buildings bringing to each project an open, modest, and collaborative / inclusive attitude. As such we have designed art galleries, mixed use schemes, media communities, fitout projects and all forms of residential architecture; winning an RIBA Award in 2008 for consultation led new build residential social housing.

Works are progressing on-site at The Carreras Building, one of London's most iconic Art Deco buildings, which we are refreshing for Lazari with a brand new, generous reception, lush communal spaces and terraces across the building. A greened, open frontage will strengthen the connection with the street and the city around it.

First developed in its signature Egyptian Revival style in 1928, the building has evolved from factory to office destination, and is now home to major commercial tenants such as fashion retailer ASOS, Clarion Housing Association, British Heart Foundation and Revlon International Corporation. Lazari's ambition is to continue this story with care: enhancing access, amenity, and communal spaces, whilst respecting the former factory's original character and iconic black cat statues.

Our vision for The Carreras Building is to create a joined-up, hospitality-driven experience. From an arrival sequence that matches the scale and presence of the structure, to a panoramic terrace and rooftop pavilion offering views of Camden, and an extensive, landscaped public realm that reactivates the building’s frontage on Mornington Crescent.

Tenants will benefit from the building's site at the intersection of the cultural, commercial and transport hubs of Camden, Kings Cross and Euston - within London's Knowledge Quarter and at a gateway for Euston's future HS2 station.

Join us at the Building the Future conference where Associate Director Dagmar Heiman will be showcasing one of our workplace projects - a bespoke HQ in a historic Mayfair building.

Dagmar will be discussing how dMFK interpreted an extremely bespoke brief to create a 50-person office which could foster connectivity and encourage a cultural shift towards a warmer, more collaborative environment - all working within a Grade II listed building. It's one of the reasons we took home Interior Architect of the Year in 2025 - an award we are honoured to be shortlisted for again this year.

Architects' Journal takes a deeper look at Bermondsey Heights: over 250 new homes sitting above 2,540sqm of industrial workspace on a tight urban site.

As part of the wider regeneration of the Old Kent Road Area, this development expresses how infrastructure can be fully integrated within a residential development, offering much-needed housing to industrial areas. The architecture references the warehouse character of Bermondsey, composed of robust brick facades and deep-set openings.

Following on from the success of this year’s work experience programme, dMFK is proud to continue its mission into widening access to the built environment industry by being a part of Beyond The Box CIC’s Festival of the Future, an annual event opening up architecture and built environment to the next generation.

At the festival, dMFK will be running a workshop that answers the question: What does an architect actually do? Participants will have a chance to design a building through a guided design session, and learn key tips on getting started in the profession.

Great acoustic design can be design that you don't even notice - from the layout of a space to the materials you use.

When we designed our own Fitzrovia studio, we worked closely with suppliers to use cutting edge materials that would maximise impact, while seamlessly blending into the beauty of the space.

That's the type of design we like to do - so seamless you wouldn't even know it's a specialist audio solution. It's one of the reasons that ou studio is one of the first in the country to become Sownd Certified - a new certification from that recognises the best in acoustic design.

Construction continues at pace at The Howlett on Gresse Street, which we are busy transforming with Collins Construction into a Fully Managed Flex Workspace for GPE.

We are honouring the building’s rich 90-year heritage of manufacturing and fashion design with a transformation that retains this character while creating a modern, stylish and comfortable workplace.

Our plans for 15 Gresse Street, now named after the Howlett & White shoe and boot workshops once operating on the site, will continue this history of craft with tactile, rich material choices creating a sense of classic longevity.

Acoustics is the often overlooked part of design which can be central to making an enjoyable - or even bearable - experience for the people who will live and work in a space.

So why do we talk about it so little?

Director Julian de Metz spoke to about the importance of good acoustics in a space, why it is so little understood, and why the wider sector should be taking this topic more seriously.

dMFK started working with Sownd Affects because we see the critical importance in valuing acoustics. It's why we're one of a handful of pioneer practices supporting the Sownd Certification, with our own studio in Charlottle Street already Bronze Certified.

🏆 Bermondsey Heights has been shortlisted for Best Mixed-Use Development Project of the Year by the British Homes Awards!

Bermondsey Heights paves the way for how homes and industrial uses can coexist in the city, without compromising comfort, efficiency, or beauty. The innovative scheme, designed by Maccreanor Lavington and delivered by dMFK for Barratt London , combines 253 homes (including 40% affordable) with 2,538 sqm of industrial and logistics workspace in a tower and podium - already setting the standard for new design in the Old Kent Road area.
