Hive Single Channel Wiring Guide 🔥

A simple breakdown of the Hive single-channel receiver for combi boilers.

N = Neutral 230V
L = Live 230V
1 = Common — boiler RT output, either 230V or 24V depending on boiler make/model. If it 230 RT on boiler it can be linked from L too . Do not mix 230v and 24 that will cost you either thermostat or printed circuit board or worse .
2 = Heating OFF
3 = Heating ON — demand/call-for-heat connection back to the boiler RT input.When the thermostat calls for heat, it will send a live signal (either 230V or 24V depending on the boiler) to the boiler’s RT input, and the boiler will then fire up and run the heating.
4 = Unused

Always check the boiler and Hive manufacturer’s wiring instructions before connecting, as the RT circuit may be 230V or low voltage. Make sure there is Earth (cpc) connected to thermostat .

Honeywell 2-Port Valve – Key Wiring Insight

🟤 Brown wire is the key

👉 The brown wire only gets power when BOTH are ON:

* Programmer (timer)
* Room Thermostat or Cylinder stat

➡️ They are connected in series, so:

* If either one is OFF ❌ → no power to brown → valve stays closed
* If both are ON ✅ → brown becomes live → valve opens

⚙️ What happens next?

* Valve opens → internal microswitch activates
* 🟠 Orange wire goes live → boiler fires 🔥

Hive Dual Channel thermostat receiver Wiring Guide

A detailed look at the terminals on a Hive Dual Channel receiver used to control separate central heating and hot water.

N – Neutral:
230V neutral supply to power the Hive receiver.

L – Live:
Permanent 230V live supply to power the receiver.

Terminal 1 – Hot Water OFF:
Used mainly with a Y-Plan/3-port mid-position valve system. This terminal provides the Hot Water OFF signal and connects to the grey wire of the 3-port valve and the SATISFIED terminal of the cylinder thermostat.

Terminal 2 – Heating OFF:
Normally not required on standard S-Plan or Y-Plan installations and is commonly left unused.

Terminal 3 – Hot Water ON:
This is the switched output when Hive calls for hot water. It connects to the COMMON terminal of the cylinder thermostat. The cylinder thermostat then controls whether the hot water valve/system receives the demand.

Terminal 4 – Heating ON:
This is the switched output when Hive calls for central heating. On an S-Plan system, it connects to the brown wire of the heating 2-port zone valve. On a Y-Plan system, it connects to the white wire of the 3-port mid-position valve.

Understanding what each terminal actually does makes fault finding, replacing programmers and wiring S-Plan or Y-Plan systems much easier.

⚠️ This is a 230V mains-voltage control system. Always safely isolate the electrical supply and prove dead before carrying out any wiring work. And MAKE SURE THERE IS EARTING CONDUCTOR CONNECTED TO HIVE RECEIVER
