Quoted £2,300 for a patio job. Starts the work, discovers a problem and suddenly wants another £980.

Now the customer is questioning why they should pay more when they were given a fixed quote.

But here’s my argument. Would you rather the builder bodge the job to stay within budget, or charge extra to do it properly?

Surely you can’t expect a tradesman to cover the cost of someone else’s poor workmanship?

Or should the builder have spotted it before quoting?

Interested to hear both sides on this one.

Are tradespeople pricing themselves out of work, or are customers completely out of touch with what skilled labour costs?

Fair play to anyone willing to have a go themselves. But if you’ve gained the skills to do all these jobs yourself, why are you so worried about what other people are charging?

Nobody’s forcing you to pay their prices. Tradespeople have businesses to run, bills to pay and families to feed.

What’s everyone else’s take on this?

A £200,000 renovation ends up £80,000 over budget, and the builder only tells the homeowners after the work is nearly finished.
Apparently, the builder and his team haven't paid themselves for three months and have been relying on loans and credit cards to keep the job going.

The homeowners say they were never informed of the additional costs and had already agreed a process for any extras.

I can sympathise with the builder, but surely you can't expect the customer to cover an £80k overspend they never agreed to?
Who's responsible here?

There’s a lot of talk about some of the people in Facebook comment sections being right idiots.

I must admit, this bloke’s choice of words is a bit extreme considering he doesn’t even know me.

Admittedly, he might be right about me, but even still 😂😂

Anyone else get this much love in their comments?

Two tools I wouldn’t want to be without when changing taps. The Techers flexi tap spanner and Nerrad box spanner make life so much easier, especially when you’re working in tight spaces under a sink.

What’s your go-to tool for changing taps?

This is one absolute abomination of an installation.

What looks like an IKEA trap paired with some of the worst copper pipework I’ve seen in a while. Along with PTFE on threads (which does nothing)😂

Who installs something like this, stands back and thinks, “Yeah, that looks good”?

Multi-tools are one of those tools I don’t know how we ever managed without. Nothing beats putting a fresh blade on either! Although they’ve got to be up there with the most annoying noises on a building site!

Would you pay it, or would you tell him where to go?

Tell me you’re a DIYer without telling me you’re a DIYer. 😂

Not sure this flexi hose is quite long enough! Could have gone around the room a few more times.

What’s the worst bit of plumbing you’ve come across?

56 hours on the invoice. Just 14 hours on site! 👀

And to top it off, a £50 charge for collecting their own tools!

That’s according to the customer, who also claims some of the work needs redoing.

There’s always two sides to a story, but what do you make of this one?
