Visualisations of a bathroom we designed for a house extension in Kensal Green, London. In this space measuring 3.0 by 1.4 metres and around an existing sash window, we create a little oasis. We source all the sanitaryware and finishes for our clients, including the brass fittings and two-tone stripe tiles which are in fashion.

Today Jflemay Architecture and Design is seven years old! 🎉 I founded the office in London in September 2019 and it has gone from strength to strength thanks to our clients who entrusted us with their projects. We continue to deliver all our architectural projects with virtual reality as standard, enabling our clients to experience their design as in a video game, as shown here in our office in Fulham Broadway. We also regularly do the construction administration, seeing it as an essential role: a transfer of knowledge from the architect to the builder, through weekly visits of the construction site, that ensures a high-quality outcome.

Here are a few detailed photos of our renovation of a listed flat in South Kensington. The historic mouldings were repaired and regilded. New architectural lights by Targetti Sankey and decorative lights by Louis Poulsen and luceplan add refinement and charm to the apartment. The main contractor Woodsgift Interiors & Joinery built wardrobes to our specification with minimalistic handles. The shower room designer C.P. Hart procured a bespoke vanity in curved Appennino marble.

We redesigned the kitchen of this Grade-II listed flat into an open-plan. In the process we discovered a historic ceiling, added mechanical extraction and brought additional daylight to the living room.

The previous kitchen had no natural light and no extraction (see greyscale images). We found that the wall separating it from the living room was not historic. RBKC’s conservation officer advised that this wall could be demolished and new partitions be glazed in their upper part to reveal the volume of the rear room.

The new partitions by PGS Glass have ultra-clear fire-rated glass letting daylight from the guest bedroom into the kitchen. The kitchen itself by Tom Howley Kitchens extracts to the outside via a duct concealed in the bedroom’s storage wall. The worktops are marble from Carrara.

The resulting flat is brighter and more hygienic, with cooking fumes properly extracted, four-metre high ceilings restored and daylight streaming through from both east and west.

We designed the renovation of this Grade-II listed front room in South Kensington, surveying and 3d modelling the apartment, obtaining listed building consent and planning permission, tendering the project and working with the contractor Woodsgift Interiors & Joinery during nine months of construction.

With the acoustician Nova Acoustics and the subcontractor CDM Stravitec we installed a 10 cm raised floor on rubber pads throughout the flat, which enabled us to lay an oak parquet while meeting the noise transmission requirements set in the freeholder’s license to alter.

We commissioned Weller Green Limited to replace the single-glazed sash windows with new timber double-glazed ones, which further improved the flat’s acoustics and energy performance. Woodsgift repainted the entire flat and regilded the cornice. We selected uplights by Targetti Sankey and decorative lights by Louis Poulsen .

How satisfying are these Victorian shutters? They had been screwed shut and we restored them after installing a new French door by , made of timber and double glazing.

Walk through our Grade-II Listed flat renovation in a Victorian townhouse in South Kensington, recently completed after two years of design and construction. The main move is the creation of a new open-plan kitchen and living room, made possible by fire-rated glass partitions. The flat is acoustically insulated, the new windows are double-glazed and the historical features are restored.

Visualisation of a kitchen we designed for a house extension in Kensal Green, London. We have sought with the client to balance traditional and modern styles. Air is extracted through the hob and sent outside via a duct in the wall. The cupboards have clear glass roofs to let sky light in and fluted glass fronts to subtly blur their contents. The rounded corners make the design humane and durable, while the brass hardware and porcelain sink bring warmth and brightness.
