Paediatric Waiting Area transformed at Southend Hospital!

We’re pleased to have successfully completed the refurbishment of the A&E Paediatric waiting area at Southend Hospital for Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

The project involved a full refresh of the waiting area, creating a more relaxed space for young patients with a colourful, woodland-themed area featuring trees and deer.

Completed on time this Summer, this refurbishment has transformed the paediatric waiting area into a refreshed and more welcoming environment for children and their families.

We’re proud of our team’s attention to detail, problem-solving and commitment to delivering quality refurbishment works within a live healthcare environment.

Great people, great cake, and a great cause!

We were delighted to host a Macmillan Coffee Morning at our Waltham Abbey and Cambridge offices yesterday, bringing colleagues together to enjoy plenty of delicious homemade and shop-bought treats while raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

From cakes and bakes to savoury treats, there was something for everyone — and, most importantly, our teams came together to support a fantastic cause that makes a real difference to people living with cancer.

A huge thank you to everyone who baked, bought treats, donated and joined us throughout the day. Your generosity and support helped make the morning a real success!

We’re proud to have played our part in supporting Macmillan Cancer Support and helping raise £325 for such an important charity.

SEND Refurbishment works are underway at Chapel End Early Years School in Walthamstow!

We’re proud to be delivering refurbishment works across five existing early years classrooms, adapting the spaces to better support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The works include:
- Improved room and door security
- New flooring, ceilings and wall finishes
- Lockable kitchenettes
- A new security system, CCTV cameras and fencing
- Resurfacing of external areas to create level, accessible play spaces

These improvements are designed to create a safer, more accessible and inclusive learning and play environment for primary school children.

We’re delighted to be contributing to a setting that will provide an enhanced experience for children, helping them learn, play and thrive in a secure and accessible environment.

Supporting Captains’ Day and Raising Funds for the Leeway Charity

We were delighted to support this year’s Captains’ Day at Hunstanton Golf Course for one of our longstanding clients by donating two hospitality tickets to a Spurs match, helping raise funds for a fantastic cause.

The tickets raised an impressive £500, contributing to a fantastic £4,000+ total raised on the day for this year’s Captain’s Charity, Leeway Domestic Violence and Abuse Services.

Leeway provides vital support to adults and children affected by domestic abuse in Norfolk and Suffolk, providing a safe place for those who need it most.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in making the day such a success and thank you to all those who donated and supported the fundraising.

We’re proud to have played a small part in helping raise money for such an important charity.

Giving Back Through Craftsmanship

Recently, our Site Manager Tom Tierney, expertly crafted a set of chopping boards for the library team at University College London, who donated them to Great Ormond Street Hospital as a thank-you gift.

What makes these boards even more special is that they were crafted from timber that was being discarded by the library department, giving the wood a new purpose and helping reduce waste.

A great example of sustainability, craftsmanship, and community support coming together.

Supporting Those Who Served

We were proud to support former Royal Marine Commando Mark Chisholm as he completed the Dartmoor Yomp 2026 on 11th July, raising funds for the Royal Marines Charity.

Joined by serving and former Royal Marines, their families and supporters, Mark took on the challenging route across the southern edge of Dartmoor National Park. In true Royal Marine style, participants carried approximately 30kg of kit, food and water while navigating rough moorland, woodland tracks and rocky terrain.

Here’s Mark enjoying a well-earned water break on top of The Dewerstone Rocks, with spectacular views across the landscape approximately 10 miles north of Plymouth Sound. It was a fitting moment of respite during a demanding day on the moor.

As a proud former Royal Marine, Mark recognises how fortunate he has been to come through his service without the physical or mental challenges that many veterans continue to face. His efforts helped raise awareness and much-needed funds for the Royal Marines Charity, which provides vital support to serving and former Royal Marines, veterans and their families.

Since its launch in 2008, the Dartmoor Yomp has raised more than £60,000 for the charity, helping ensure that members of the Royal Marines family can access support whenever it is needed.

We are delighted to have supported Mark's fundraising efforts once again and congratulate him on completing another successful yomp in support of such an important cause.

We’re proud to share this fantastic feedback from tenants while carrying out works to their home for Tendring District Council.

The resident highlighted how our electricians:
• Communicated clearly about the work required and what would happen next
• Took care to protect their home while working
• Worked efficiently as a team, with a polite and cheerful approach
• Went the extra mile to help them by installing an additional socket requested to support essential medical equipment

They also thanked our office team for being caring, understanding, and taking the time to listen when arranging the appointment.

Feedback like this matters because it reflects our company values: respectful people, safe working, tidy workmanship, and a customer-first approach.

A big thank you to the Tendring District Council resident who sent us this letter and great work by our site team and our office staff!

Swinging into Action for Charity!

We were proud to support the Annual Charity Golf Day at Burstead Golf Club in aid of Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund.

Our Managing Director, Mark Downey, and Senior Surveyor, Jason Bates, joined fellow local businesses and our clients from the University of Cambridge for a fantastic day of golf, networking, and fundraising. The event raised approximately £10,000 to help support families affected by childhood cancer.

For more than 30 years, Lennox Children’s Cancer Fund has provided invaluable emotional and financial support to children with cancer and their families, making a real difference during some of life’s most challenging moments.

Mark commented: “Although our golf was average, the BBQ afterwards was great!”

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in organising and supporting such a worthwhile event.

Supporting the Demelza Charity Through a Community Charity Auction

Our Contracts Manager Paul Adams recently hosted an auction and raffle in support of Demelza Hospice Care for Children - who provide specialist expert clinical care to children and young people with serious or life-limiting conditions. Kirkman and Jourdain donated a pair of Tottenham Hotspur hospitality tickets which were snapped up by Jessica Reynolds for £750 as a Father’s Day gift for her dad — a lifelong Spurs supporter.

Paul told Jessica that her father would love the experience, especially with Spurs legends Pat Jennings and Martin Chivers hosting the hospitality event, but Jessica admitted she’d never heard of either of them!

Thank you to everyone who supported the evening, an incredible £15,000 was raised for the Demelza charity.

Construction and Conservation, Hand in Hand

We’re currently carrying out boundary wall restoration works at St Nicholas Church within a protected conservation area. Following a structural engineer’s report commissioned by Stevenage Borough Council, we were appointed to carefully dismantle and rebuild a 30m unsafe wall between the church grounds and neighbouring residential property.

The works include:
• Making safe and dismantling the existing wall
• Hand excavation to protect tree roots
• Installing new concrete foundations
• Rebuilding using reclaimed original bricks wherever possible

With conservation approvals, matching materials, and protected trees all requiring careful consideration, this project is a great example of construction working alongside heritage preservation.
