We’re delighted to welcome Tess to the team as a Part II Architectural Assistant!
 
Tess joins us with experience across a wide range of project types and RIBA work stages, having worked on residential, healthcare and office retrofit projects. She completed her MA in Architecture at the Royal College of Art, where her research explored the intersection of architecture, colonialism and the climate crisis.
 
Her work is driven by a passion for unlocking the social and environmental potential of existing buildings through low-impact, regenerative and socially responsive design. Her undergraduate project was nominated for the AJ Student Prize, and she was awarded the Royal College of Art Dean’s Citizen Student Prize in recognition of her contribution to the RCA community.
 
Outside the studio, Tessnim enjoys hiking and videography.

A fantastic day spent with the whole team at Haynes Park, where we enjoyed a tour of the site, walked the grounds and had a great discussion with Simon from Smith and Wallwork Engineers, who gave the team valuable insight into the structural engineering behind the project.

It was a great opportunity to see the design taking shape, gain a greater appreciation of the construction process, and experience the scale of the works currently underway.

Some of the latest milestones include:
• The 650m-long ring beam is progressing well.
• Reinforcement of the buttress plinths is taking shape, which will support the impressive 162m clear-span roof dome.
• Steel shuttering for the plinths has now arrived, with the first plinth due to be cast in the coming weeks.
• Around 1km of kerbing for the outer walkway is currently being installed.

A huge thank you to our client for their hospitality and for taking the time to show us around the site, and to Simon for sharing his expertise with the team. It was a great day to spend together, and we’re looking forward to seeing the project continue to progress over the coming months!

Following last week’s exciting news that PLANT received a RIBA National Award, we’re delighted to share another success!

PLANT has been shortlisted in the AJ Retrofit & Reuse Awards 2026 in the Conservation & Historic (Over £20m) category.

This recognition celebrates architectural excellence in the renewal and repurposing of existing buildings. It’s fantastic to see PLANT recognised among the UK’s leading examples of conservation-led retrofit.

We’re delighted to welcome Ben to the team as a Part II Architectural Assistant!

Ben brings experience across a range of residential, co-living and PBSA projects throughout the UK. With a skill set spanning both physical and digital 3D modelling, he is continuing to develop his technical knowledge and on-site experience.

His work is driven by an interest in the relationship between wildlife and the built environment, shaped by his studies in environmental design. He is passionate about exploring how architecture can respond to and coexist with the natural world.

Outside the studio, Ben enjoys spending time outdoors, whether camping, hiking or paddling a canoe.

We’re delighted to welcome Lena to the team as a Part II Architectural Assistant!

Lena brings a strong background in architectural design, computational methods and digital technologies. She studied Architectural Design and Technology at Cardiff Metropolitan University, completed her MA in Architecture at the University of Westminster, and most recently earned an MSc in Computational Methods in Architecture at Cardiff University.

Her work explores the intersection of culture, memory and technology, with a particular interest in parametric design, biomimicry and generative processes. She is passionate about how emerging digital tools can shape architecture at both building and urban scales, with research spanning collective memory, cultural identity, placemaking, algorithmic growth systems, digital fabrication and design automation.

Outside the studio, Lena enjoys travelling, photography and exploring the arts.

🏆 We’re thrilled to share that PLANT has won a 2026 RIBA National Award!
 
We’re incredibly proud to see PLANT recognised among the 32 projects selected as this year’s RIBA National Award winners - an accolade that celebrates the very best architecture across the UK.
 
Originally designed by Arup Associates in the 1970s as Mountbatten House, this Grade II listed landmark has been transformed into a contemporary workplace that celebrates its heritage whilst setting new standards for sustainability, wellbeing and adaptive reuse.
 
At Twelve Architects, we were proud to work alongside Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, Grant Associates and Studio Knight Stokoe to help deliver this remarkable transformation.

The British Grand Prix has officially arrived, and we can’t wait to see Escapade Silverstone come to life for the UK’s biggest sporting event.
 
One of the defining features of Escapade was its relationship with the circuit. We carefully positioned the accommodation to maximise panoramic views, ensuring guests feel connected to the action from the moment they arrive.
 
Whether you’re watching the racing unfold from your private terrace or taking in the atmosphere across the circuit, every vantage point was designed to celebrate one of motorsport’s most iconic settings.

Re-Imagining Bodmin Jail – Heritage Context

Last week, we were invited to present at the x Breakfast Briefing: Remaking Architecture for Contemporary Use. Our Director, Lorraine, shared the story of Bodmin Jail, a project that transformed a derelict, Grade II listed prison into a boutique hotel and immersive visitor attraction.

The event sparked some fascinating conversations about adapting historic buildings for modern use without losing the character, history and context that make them significant. It inspired us to share the story behind this remarkable project.

Originally built in 1779 as part of the Prison Reform movement, Bodmin Jail was a milestone in prison design and remained operational for 150 years. Following its closure in 1927, the building fell into severe disrepair. The building had lost most of its roof structure and was damaged from several demolition attempts, leaving it open to the elements to decay.

By the time we were appointed, large parts of the building were inaccessible, original plans were almost impossible to obtain and the building fabric was so heavily saturated with water, it was estimated the walls could take up to four years to dry out.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing some of the process behind this ambitious restoration, which not only rescued a significant heritage asset but also extended its lifespan by over 200 years.
