Annuals are the poor relations in the gardening hierarchy - and yet they provide a quick boost when you need a hit of colour and do a grand job. As the lavender starts to fade in the background, enter the Angelonia [round of applause]. She should keep going for the rest of summer and with a bit of TLC might even make it through to next year!

Ealing Front Gardens project have just updated their site - depressing news for gardens BUT here's a real life alternative to block paving - our front garden project. Sorry to bang on about it but if we're lucky enough to have some space in front of our houses it's really important to keep it green. And even if you have two cars to park, as in the featured household, we can still introduce lots of planting and let rainfall soak into the soil again rather than run into storm drains. Rant over. Lots of detailed info here, including costs of making the garden.

Well apparently I'll be on the radio on Gardeners Question Time on January 4th. Had a fun morning with Manoj Malde (garden designer) and Dan Cocker from Somethin' Else productions, recording in a client's front garden and fighting with the overhead planes (we nearly lost, but Dan found those moments of silence and kept us going!). All about front gardens and keeping them green, inviting, sustainable and generally wonderful oases, not car parks. With some digressions along the way, but expect Dan will be tidying those up ....
