From concept to coordination.

Continuing our look at the L + Process, the next stages focus on developing the initial concept and bringing the different elements of the design together.

Once the direction has been established, the focus shifts to developing it in greater detail.

The architectural concept is tested and refined, with plans, materiality and positioning developed alongside input from the consultant team. As the project moves into technical design, drawings, specifications, and construction information bring further definition to the project.

There is a lot happening behind the drawings at this point. Good coordination allows the original concept to remain clear as greater levels of detail are introduced. It also provides the information needed to move forward with certainty as the project progresses towards construction.

A Contemporary Transformation Behind a Traditional Façade.

At Thompson House, a traditional brick façade conceals a contemporary side and rear extension tucked away within a quiet residential cul-de-sac in Southwest London. The architecture reveals itself gradually, with black timber cladding emerging only as visitors approach the entrance.

Inside, an expansive open-plan kitchen, dining and living space is shaped by natural light and framed by views of the garden. Linear rooflights draw daylight deep into the property, while generous glazing strengthens the relationship between the interior and the surrounding landscape.

The result is a sequence of spaces that feel bright, calm, and connected to nature, even within a compact urban setting.
