💡Full Or Part Rewires💡

Old or faulty wiring is the most common cause of electrical fires so it is important to ensure you wiring is safe at regular intervals.

Some people may want to undertake a full electrical rewire or upgrade the current system – particularly those moving into a new property which might be 25 years or older.

Undertaking a full or partial rewire in a property is a big job and one that should only be carried out by a registered electrician.

Having a full rewire will bring the electrical installation in your property up-to-date with the latest wiring regulations. It will also give you the opportunity to modernise your home with new switches, sockets and a 18th edition consumer unit containing residual current devices (RCDs).

Back in January 2019, the 18th edition of wiring regulations – British Standard BS7671 “Requirements for electrical installations” came into force setting out the UK’s national standard for electrical low voltage installations. This improved the safety standard of electrical installations by making it a requirement that almost all electrical circuits that were to be installed into homes from then should be fitted with an RCD (residual current device) that provides an extra level of protection over and above that found in the old style of fuse box/board (consumer unit)

💡Electrical Safety In Rented Properties💡

Rental properties are increasingly coming under the spotlight regarding electrical safety standards.

Landlords are required by law to ensure that the electrical installation in a rented property is safe when tenants move in and maintained in a safe condition throughout its duration.

Since July 2020 it is a legal requirement for all landlords to have a valid EICR (electrical installation condition report) and failure to have the correct certification in place could lead to being fined.

As a landlord you have to make sure the electrical installation is ‘fit for purpose’ and regularly checked by a competent person
