But what does that actually mean if you’re responsible for a building?

One of the key changes is a greater focus on understanding risk in context and taking action that’s proportionate to the findings. An identified risk doesn’t automatically mean extensive remediation is needed.

We’ve taken a closer look at what’s changed, what it means for FRAEWs and how our own methodology is evolving alongside the revised Code of Practice.

Some projects are about more than a single piece of work - they’re about providing ongoing support and expertise over many years.

Since 2008, we’ve been working with Anchor Brewhouse, a prestigious warehouse conversion of 50 apartments, providing retained building surveying services to support the development.

From managing refurbishment projects and planned maintenance to advising on defects, remedial works, balcony restoration and chimney remediation, we’ve helped the building stay well maintained and ready for the future!

It’s a great example of the value of having a trusted surveying partner who understands a property inside and out. 🤝

Three days, plenty of ideas and a fair bit of healthy competition...

Our annual retreat brought the Harris Associates team together to step away from the usual day-to-day and spend some time thinking about where we’re heading as a business.

We talked about how we work together, how we can keep developing our people and, most importantly, how we can keep improving the experience we give our clients!

Of course, it wasn’t all serious. There were Crystal Maze- and Taskmaster-inspired challenges along the way, testing our communication, problem-solving and ability to work as a team.

We left with plenty of ideas to take forward, a few new perspectives and a stronger sense of where we’re heading.

Effective CDM Principal Designer involvement starts early, when there’s still time to influence the design.

That early input matters because it means risks can be spotted and dealt with before they turn into real problems on site.

Under CDM 2015, the Principal Designer plans, manages, monitors and coordinates health and safety during the pre-construction phase, working with designers to eliminate, reduce or control those risks.

We’re swapping the office for a team-building retreat this week. 👋
