Old stone doesn't have to go to waste. Now it can go back into your project as something new!

Our new CR300 crusher from means we can take existing stone out of your project, crush it down into chippings, and reinstall it as a terrazzo floor. Same material, new life.

For clients, that means the floor they already have, whether it's old stone, concrete or reclaimed material, can become part of the finished design. It keeps the history of the building in the floor and cuts down on waste.

It's all done in-house (or on-site), from the crushing through to the finished terrazzo.

Today's challenge? Cutting the grooves that hold brass anti-slip strips on stone stair treads.

Next time you're on a stone staircase, take a look at the front edge of each step. Those thin metal strips are what stop you from slipping.

Here's how they get there: each groove is marked out by hand first — measured, squared, pencilled in — before being cut to the exact width and depth the brass strip needs. Too shallow, and it stands proud. Too deep, and it sits loose. There's no margin for a second attempt on a finished tread.

Small detail. Big impact. It has to be perfect on every single step, or else it's noticeable the moment you use the stairs. The parts of a build that keep people safe are usually the ones nobody ever looks at, but it's just where we take that extra care!

We love how this recent project came out: this terrazzo surround built around this striking two-sided fireplace.

The warm, speckled terrazzo wraps the hearth and extends into a full-length bench, tying the whole feature together and giving it real presence in the room. It's a good example of what terrazzo does best — a hardwearing surface that can handle a lot, without losing any of its character.

In the factory this week: freeing finished pieces from a slab, by hand, on the bridge saw.

There's no program running the blade here. Just careful, controlled positioning along every edge, one cut at a time — because this slab already had three finished sections worked into it.

That's what makes it high-risk. Not wasted material, wasted work. Take the blade a fraction too far, or let a piece drop the moment it comes loose, and hours of finished work are gone in a second.

So every edge is lined up with precision. Every piece is supported before it separates. Nothing moves until it's meant to.

It doesn't look dramatic. But jobs like this are where our team's experience and craftsmanship shine!

Throwback to one of our favourite collaborations: the Night and Day bench, designed by Will Yates-Johnson () for the Science Museum.

Sitting beneath the museum's famous Foucault's Pendulum, the bench weighs 600kg, stretches over 2.4 metres, and features 212 slivers of solid brass hand-set into the conglomerate to represent the rotation of the earth over 24 hours. It took a team of ten to install it - a proper feat of design and craftsmanship, and one we were proud to help bring to life.

Sorting some stone puzzles in the bespoke factory today!

There’s a real art to mapping out a custom terrazzo layout. Before any resin or cement is poured, our team hand-selects and places every piece of stone like a giant, tactile jigsaw puzzle to ensure the spacing, colour contrast, and visual flow are spot on.

It takes a keen eye, patience, and a bit of sunny factory energy to get it just right. What do you think of this layout in progress?
