β οΈ PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHO YOU TRUST WITH YOUR HOME β οΈ
There is so much more to this story, but weβll keep it short and sweetβ¦
Yesterday, while carrying out a roof survey, an elderly gentleman in his 80s came out from the neighbouring property and asked if we could take a look at his roof while we were there.
He explained that he had only had a βnew roofβ fitted last Thursday, but it hadnβt stopped leaking.
Once we had finished our survey, we went over to take a look β and we genuinely couldnβt believe what we found.
This gentleman had paid someone Β£2,000. What had been left behind was essentially tarpaulin laid across the roof with pieces of felt capping sheet screwed into place.
We reassured him that we could help and returned this morning to put things right.
While our team were carrying out the roofing works, the ceiling underneath suddenly collapsed in one large sheet due to the amount of water it had been holding.
It landed directly onto the floor and desk where this gentleman had been sitting just FIVE MINUTES EARLIER reading his newspaper.
Thankfully, nobody was hurt.
Weβre not posting this to make ourselves out to be heroes. We simply happened to be in the right place at the right time. Had we not been surveying the property next door yesterday, this gentleman may have had no idea what had actually been done to his roof or just how dangerous the situation had become.
There are plenty of reputable roofing companies out there doing fantastic work, but unfortunately there are also rogue traders willing to take peopleβs money and leave behind work like this.
Please do your research when choosing a contractor to work on your home.
Check their reviews. Check their previous work. Check their credentials. Ask questions.
And remember β the cheapest quote isnβt always the cheapest option in the long run.
Sometimes paying a little more for a reputable contractor can save you thousands putting someone elseβs work right.
Please share this post. It might just stop someone else from becoming the next victim of a rogue trader.
