Our clients moved from California with one wish — to bring a little of that outdoor living with them. The challenge: a tricky corner plot in Chiswick, and a brief to fit a pool without it ever feeling like one.

We used dark blue-grey tiles to give the water the quality of a natural pond — something to swim through rather than stare at. Planting sits at eye level along the pool edge, so every length takes you past hydrangeas and softly planted borders. Ans at night, it becomes something else entirely.

110 tonnes of soil. 26 skips. 13 days. One corner plot in Chiswick. Sometimes the hardest gardens to build are the ones that look like they were always there. 🙂

Colour, texture, planting — these aren't finishing touches. They're the whole story.

In a small city garden, the temptation is to keep things simple. But the opposite is true. Layered planting — from low box edging through billowing agastache and ligularia to the silver stems of birch overhead — creates depth that tricks the eye and draws you in.

The corten screen. The terracotta planters. The warm grain of the cedar slatting. Every material earns its place, adding texture so the space never feels flat or finite.

Day or night, the garden changes. That's what makes it feel far bigger than it is.

The garden isn't separate from the house — it's part of it. Here in London SW18, the bifold doors open to reveal what is effectively the fourth wall of the kitchen diner: a living, breathing backdrop that shifts with the light, the season, and the time of day.

Strong contemporary lines carry seamlessly from interior to exterior — the same palette, the same geometry — before the planting takes over and softens everything. That contrast is intentional. Architecture gives the garden its bones. Planting gives it its soul.

As designers, the indoor-outdoor connection is never an afterthought. It's one of the first things we consider, and often the detail that has the most profound effect on how a home actually feels to live in.

By evening, the garden transforms completely. Carefully placed lighting picks out the studio, the tree canopy, the planting — and the view from the kitchen becomes something else entirely.

This courtyard was designed for clients who love to garden but wanted beds at a height that works for them — so raised planters weren't a compromise, they were the concept.

Limestone-clad planters define the space, create seclusion, and put planting in the spotlight. A sunken Dutch paver seating area sits between them, enclosed and intimate — a feature you might expect to find in a much larger garden.

The materials earn their place here. Dutch pavers underfoot. Limestone cladding on the planters that ties directly to the limestone terraces — the same material running floor to wall, tricking the eye into reading the space as larger than it is.

Slatted timber boundaries. A corten steel screen as punctuation. Each one chosen not just for its look, but for what it contributes to the layering of the space.

Come evening, the lighting finds the texture, lifts the focal points, and turns a courtyard into somewhere you don't want to leave.

There's a moment, just after sunset, when a well-lit garden becomes something else entirely.

This Clapham garden features a bespoke corten steel planter running the full width — home to three Magnolia Little Gem, chosen for their height, year-round evergreen structure, and those intoxicating white summer flowers.

But it's the lighting that transforms everything. Subtle uplights inside the planter, spots picking out the topiary, and warm LED strips beneath the steps — none of it shouts. All of it glows.

The result? A garden that draws you outside on an autumn evening. A backdrop that looks extraordinary from the house every single night of the year. A space that earns its keep in December just as much as July.

Good lighting doesn't illuminate a garden. It gives it a second life.

A West London garden designed for every hour of the day. The dining and seating areas are separated by a central bed with a multi-stemmed tree at its heart — creating seclusion without walls.

Bespoke trellis panels behind the dining table add texture and a sense of theatre, while warm uplighting transforms the terrace after dark.

The bed bursts into bloom from early spring through to autumn and beyond — narcissi, tulips, alliums, and then this: a June crescendo of Helenium, Penstemon, Gaura and Agastache. Bringing the sofa as close to the planting as possible will never fail to lift the spirits and bring joy to your heart!

Using design visualisation software, we show clients exactly what their garden will look and feel like — months before a single plant goes in.

The brief was simple: a space the whole family could use. Somewhere to sit with a glass of wine at the end of the day, somewhere for the children to run, and planting that felt lush and naturalistic rather than formal or fussy. The clients wanted it to feel like it had always been there.

We divided the garden into three distinct zones — a lower terrace anchoring the garden room end, a generous lawn that gives breathing room between the zones and a raised entertaining terrace running off the house. Generous borders thread through all of it, planted with Echinacea, Verbena bonariensis, Salvia, and Hydrangea for late-summer colour before autumn arrives with its vibrant golden hues.

The first swipe is what we started with. The last is what we handed back.

This long, narrow West London garden was designed to do two things — mirror the sleek, contemporary kitchen-diner it opens onto, and gradually dissolve into a wild, woodland atmosphere the further you venture in.

Considered garden design isn't just about aesthetics. It's about creating an environment that changes how you feel — and how you live.

Designing this garden came with a unique challenge — a 12 metre conifer hedge surrounding the entire space. It's the biggest hedge we ever had to work with! To protect the sensitive surface roots, we carefully avoided heavy construction around the edges of the space, introducing a gravel path along the rear for added protection. By positioning the paved terrace at the centre, we created a practical and inviting space without compromising the health of the existing trees.The brief was to create a calm, green oasis — so we embraced the enclosure and designed lush borders filled with layered foliage in every shade of green, adding depth, texture, and year-round interest.
