A small but mighty extension in Suffolk, providing a bright entrance to a previously converted barn. As well as a colourful new front door, the porch accommodates a much needed plant room and WC, and a skylight lets light in to the depth of the house.

On site in Suffolk - the conversion of an existing barn in the curtilage of a Grade II Listed house, being carried out by . Following repairs to the historic timber frame, a new oak structural frame has been installed to support the new mezzanine floor, including concealed joist hangers for the new joists. The window openings have been formed and surveyed by .co.uk for new triple glazed windows. These sit outside the historic timber frame and have been carefully positioned to work around the key timbers.

Insulation will be added to the walls, using a combination of blown h**p insulation between the frame and woodfibre boards over the outside face. Above, the refurbished roof will also have Pavaflex woodfibre insulation fitted between the rafters, with woodfibre boards below. These natural, sustainable insulations will provide a significant improvement in the thermal performance of the building.

Bespoke replacement staircase and landing at our C**t House refurbishment. The previously dark and disjointed circulation space has been opened up and now benefits from natural light across both floors. The original parquet floor was refurbished as part of the works, with new areas infilled to match. Main works and joinery by James Norman with staircase metalwork fabricated by N&A Engineering; design by us.⁠

3D modelling to explore internal spaces, materials, and garden for the conversion of a brick outbuilding & stable to a one bedroom annexe. The existing brick walls will be lined internally with woodfibre insulation and lime plastered, with new timber joinery for storage. The annexe will have level floors throughout and ramped external access. Bricks and timber posts salvaged from the current stable will be reused in the garden.

Suffolk Construction Social is back on 25th June, from 6pm at The Thomas Wolsey. The more the merrier - same format as before, basically a social collective to chat, connect, commiserate and celebrate!

Happy 10th birthday to this project! A black weatherboarded timber frame extension to a former sawmill in the Woolverstone conservation area, replacing a draughty conservatory with a bright and warm flexible dining area and additional utility room.
