A brilliant weekend of creativity by the Thames! 🎨

Almost 30 residents joined artist Sahra Hersi and HemingwayDesign for two workshops exploring the landscape, wildlife and maritime history of the Thames foreshore as part of our Beacons public art project.
‘Walk and Imagine’ combined a riverside walk with collaborative drawing, while ‘Make Your Own Beacon’ invited residents to create models inspired by the river.

The workshops form part of a wider co-design project. A Local Governance Group, made up of residents from Barking Riverside and Thames View, as well as representatives from the Council, is helping to steer the project, with ideas gathered through the workshops informing the development of the artwork.

A big thank you to Sahra and everyone who took part - we can’t wait to see the project develop! Want to get involved? Email [email protected] to register your interest.

Help shape a new public artwork for the Barking Riverside foreshore 🎨

This weekend Sara Hersi is hosting two free workshops, inviting residents to contribute ideas for a new public artwork inspired by the historic navigational beacons that are part of our Thames foreshore at Barking Riverside.

There are two different sessions to choose from:

🚶 Saturday 3rd October, 11.30am–2pm: Walk and Imagine
Take a short walk along the foreshore, exploring the landscape, local wildlife and maritime history, before heading back for a group drawing session overlooking the river.

⚓ Sunday 4th October, 11.30am–2pm: Make Your Own Beacon
Design and build your own model beacon, taking inspiration from the foreshore and the structures that have guided boats along the Thames.

Ideas gathered across the weekend will help shape the new artwork, so it’s a great opportunity to play a part in something created for the neighbourhood. The project is also supported by a local Governance Group, ensuring residents from across Barking Riverside and Thames View are steering this important project that will help reinforce the identity of Barking Riverside.

📍 BRL Project Office, Project Road
🎟️ Free and open to all ages
