At Lux, we believe our work should do more than maintain buildings, it should strengthen the communities we operate in.
Thatโs why weโre proud to share our involvement in the transformation of the Swan Youth Project Berkhamsted in Berkhamsted, delivered in partnership with our valued client, Peabody Community Foundation
Lux contributed a large portion towards the project ourselves, helping to transform this vital space for young people in the local area, many of whom rely on The Swan as a safe, judgement free place to be themselves.
The impact of spaces like this cannot be overstated. In their own words, one young person who uses the centre shared on their website:
โThe Swan is a place where you can socialise without feeling like you need to put up a barrier or pretend to be someone youโre not. Iโve struggled with depression and anxiety. Honestly, I donโt think Iโd still be here if it werenโt for Swan and Parol. We need more places like this otherwise young people will keep falling into the wrong crowds.โ
Reading that reminds us exactly why projects like this matter. Itโs easy to think of contracting work as bricks, wiring, and finishes, but every space we touch is somewhere people live their lives. When that space is a youth centre, the stakes are even higher.
As part of the works, our team delivered the below plus more:
๐น New male, female, disabled and staff WCs
๐น Full redecoration throughout the whole centre
๐น New flooring
๐น New lockable storage cupboards
๐น Various lighting upgrades and electrical works
For Lux, giving back isnโt a side project, itโs part of how we choose to do business. Weโre committed to investing in the communities where we work, not just delivering contracts within them. Partnering with organisations like Peabody, who share that same commitment to social value, makes projects like this possible.
Proud of our team for the work delivered, and prouder still of what it means for the young people who now have a better space to call their own.
