Great to see this project nearing completion in Brockley!

The existing property has benefitted from a rear extension, a two storey side extension, which forms a new entrance, as well as, extending the bay at the front. New windows further improve the existing property. The semi- detached neighbour also decided to replace their windows and extend the bay to the front, revitalising the pairs street presence. The design of the new additions uses coloured render, with textured, raked render details. The colour references the existing, while also being a bold, modern addition to the house.

New images of our new build home in the North Kent countryside, which references the nearby Napoleonic Gunpowder Works!

‘Gunpowder House’
The design responds directly to its setting, maximising panoramic landscape views while drawing inspiration from the area’s rich architectural history and material character.

The solid outer layer is crafted from local brick and references the historic structures of the nearby Napoleonic Oare Gunpowder Works. These industrial buildings, designed to withstand explosions, feature the use of battered brick walls, robust forms, and deep reveals.

The house presents a more solid and protective face to the publicly visible north-east and south-east elevations, while the south-west and north-west elevations open out towards the garden and landscape beyond.

The massing and forms of the house allude to an inhabited ruin. The brick elements are carefully articulated through varying heights, and textures. Hit-and-miss brick screens that filter light into the entrance courtyard and house. A prominent chimney and hearth form a focal point within the house and reference the distinctive chimneys of the gunpowder works.

10 Year Retrospective
2023
Reflecting on the last 10 years of Selencky Parsons we have enjoyed working on a range of projects. In 2023, Selencky Parsons completed several notable projects including The Old Apple Store, which went on to win House Extension of the Year at the British Home Awards ! Also completed in 2023, Coral Cube House was featured on Channel 4s Extraordinary Extensions.

We also completed several designs for interesting garden buildings. As well as, designing and building our own stand for the Grand Design Show.

We are delighted to have received planning permission for this rear extension in Telegraph Hill Conservation Area.

The two mono-pitched forms are clad in charred timber to clearly differentiate old and new. Windows offer views out to greenery and ensure plenty of daylight to the new extension.

On site !

Great to see this project taking shape on site in Kilburn. The scheme consists of two rear extensions, linked by a canopy. The canopy is arranged around an existing bay tree which has been carefully retained. The existing rear wall of the house is clad with white brick to further unify the two.

Fluted precast concrete elements are utilised on the fascia of the canopy and next to openings to add texture and detail to the facade.

Can’t wait to see this project finished!

Planning permission ✅

We’re delighted to have received planning permission for this garden building in Kilburn! 🍃

The project takes a historic outbuilding and extends it with a contemporary greenhouse, giving a new lease of life to the existing building, as well as, creating a functional and beautiful space for growing plants.🪴 The scheme sits in the garden of another one of our projects- a rear extension to an existing house, currently under construction and set to complete soon. The renovated and extended garden building will complete the reimagining of this house and garden.

We’re delighted that planning permission has been granted for the careful restoration and transformation of this significant Grade II listed house in the heart of Greenwich!

The proposals focus on sensitively repairing and reinstating the historic elements of the building, whilst introducing a series of contemporary additions designed to sit alongside the fabric of the original house. New interventions are expressed with a restrained material palette and refined detailing, creating a clear but respectful dialogue between old and new.

The scheme involves the restoration of key historic features, including a series of newly discovered brick vaults which have been hidden for decades.

The client’s ambition is to preserve the charm, significance and atmosphere of the existing house while carefully adapting it for contemporary living and making it function as sustainably as possible. This project will protect the house for generations to come.

We’re looking forward to developing the next stages of the project!

Great to see this project in West Norwood coming to life! A usual site with a large change in level, the scheme carves out brick planters at the lower level, creating pocket garden views from the new extension. Red brick is used internally and up and over glazing to further link in to out.

We particularly like how the planting contrasts against the red brick! 🧱🌱

We are delighted to receive planning permission for this rear extension in a conservation area, in Bromley!

The proposal also includes a pergola which not only improved the usable garden space, but links the old to the new.

The scheme has been carefully designed to reference the existing house, but in a contemporary way. The roof form of the extension and pergola are designed to reference the mock Tudor gables of the existing house. The material palette of the extension also takes cues from the existing with a white brick base and profiled metal gables.
