What happens to a green roof when access for maintenance has not been properly planned?

A modular green roof system still needs planned care to perform properly over time.

The GRO code recommends maintenance at least twice per year, including checking rainwater outlets and keeping them clear. During prolonged dry or high-temperature periods, temporary watering may also be required.

With M-Tray®, individual modules can be lifted and replaced where needed, helping make inspection, repair and ongoing upkeep more manageable across the life of the roof.

For larger or commercial roofs, a specialist maintenance contract with around two to four inspections per year may also be appropriate.

Planning for maintenance early helps protect the green roof system, support the waterproofing strategy and maintain the long-term value of the roof space.
