Restoring a Landmark: St Andrew’s Church

St Andrew’s Church, a Grade II listed building in the Barnsbury Conservation Area, stands proudly as the architectural centrepiece of Thornhill Square and Thornhill Crescent. Surrounded by elegant Victorian terraces, the Church is a vital part of Islington’s historic urban landscape, contributing significantly to the area’s distinctive heritage character.

Given its importance, the restoration project required thoughtful planning and meticulous care to preserve the Church’s architectural integrity and ensure its historic charm endures for future generations.

We’re delighted to announce the completion of Phase 2 of our major restoration programme, which focused on the West Elevation of the Nave. This follows the successful repair of the North Vestry Gable in 2024.

A heartfelt thank you to the skilled team at Universal Stone Ltd for their dedication and craftsmanship throughout this phase of the restoration.

We are delighted to announce that our project for St Mary's Somers Town has been awarded Heritage at Risk Capital Fund. It is one of the two projects receiving this funding in London.

The Garde II* listed church has been threatened with closure and demolition due to its deteriorating condition. The project involves stonework repairs to its west façade on busy Eversholt Street, adjacent to Euston Station.

The project will allow St Mary’s to plan further restoration and secure its future as a place of worship and community support.

The project is expected to be completed in spring 2026.

The Save the Tower project will bring back the lost creatures to this Grade II-listed church's tower & spire. The project is expected to be completed by November 2025.

New and Old Cross
We recently completed a project - stonework repair to the west gable of this Grade II listed church built in 1845.
As a part of this project, the original gable cross was replaced with a new due to its long term stability.
Following the conversation repair, the original cross was re-erected in the memorial garden to celebrate the church's 180 year heritage.
