Another North London project completed by AM WALLS ✅

We’re pleased to have completed our fourth project for this client, this time at a North London Synagogue.

For this project, we supplied and installed one of our A100 Twin Point Acoustic Movable Wall systems, achieving an impressive 58dB acoustic rating and finished in H1334 Oak, complete with a centrally positioned double inset pass door.

But our involvement went much further than simply installing the wall.

Following our initial site survey, our complete package included:

✅ Opening up the existing bulkhead
✅ Installation of our Twin Point track system
✅ Construction of the new bulkhead
✅ Repositioning and centring existing lighting
✅ Repositioning electrical sockets
✅ Relocation of the CCTV camera
✅ Making good and full decoration following Phase 1
✅ Phase 2 installation of the acoustic movable wall and panels
✅ Full testing and commissioning
✅ End-user demonstration and training
✅ Operating & Maintenance manuals
✅ Video operating demonstration for future users

The video demonstration is particularly useful on sites like this where multiple people may need to operate the wall. Rather than relying on one person remembering the training, users can refer back to the video whenever required.

Survey → enabling works → track installation → making good → panel installation → testing → commissioning → training → aftercare.

🔧 A MOVABLE WALL ISN’T JUST A PARTITION — IT’S WORKING EQUIPMENT

A movable wall can be operated hundreds of times throughout its life.

But how often is anyone actually checking what’s happening inside the track, above the ceiling and within each individual panel?

That’s where planned Service, Maintenance & Health and Safety Inspections become so important.

When an AM WALLS engineers attends site, we don’t simply operate the wall and give it a quick visual inspection.

We follow a structured inspection process.

🔹 The wall is opened and moved into its stacking area
🔹 Track fixings are inspected
🔹 Where accessible, support work, fixings and drop rods above the ceiling are checked
🔹 Every trolley is individually inspected, including using a camera to check for cracks, flat spots and wear, before being lubricated
🔹 Every panel is individually operated and inspected
🔹 Top and bottom acoustic seals are checked for correct operation
🔹 Operating sleeves, profiles and rubber gaskets are inspected
🔹 Jamb and slam posts are checked
🔹 Minor repairs can be carried out during the service where possible
🔹 The complete wall is set up and final operational and safety checks are completed

Each panel is individually recorded as part of our inspection process, with our engineers completing the relevant inspection documentation and service identification.

If we discover a more serious issue — such as a cracked trolley, damaged operating mechanism, gearbox failure, unsafe fixing or movement within the track/support structure — we document it with photographs and video evidence and explain our findings to the client.

Following the visit, our office produces an evidence pack containing the relevant inspection documentation and findings.

Where remedial works are required, these are clearly identified, explained and costed for the client.

🔹 WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU PLACE AN ORDER WITH AM WALLS?

There’s a lot more that goes into supplying and installing an acoustic movable wall than most people ever see.

Once an order is placed, that’s when the real work begins.

📋 Project coordination
We review the project requirements, programme and important installation dates with the client/project team.

📐 Site survey
Opening dimensions, finished floor levels, structural support, ceiling voids, stacking arrangements and access requirements are checked before manufacture.

🔧 Track installation
Where required, our installation is completed in phases, allowing other trades to complete ceilings and finishes around the track.

🚚 Panel installation
Once the panels are ready and the site is prepared, our engineers return to install, level and correctly set up the complete system.

✅ Testing & commissioning
The wall is fully operated and checked to make sure everything is working as it should.

🎓 End-user training & handover
We demonstrate the correct operation of the system and provide the relevant operating and maintenance information.

🛠️ Aftercare
Our involvement doesn’t have to finish at handover.

We provide ongoing servicing, maintenance, Health & Safety inspections, repairs and extended aftercare packages for AM WALLS systems.

We also provide service, maintenance, repairs and aftercare packages for operable wall systems from all other manufacturers — even if the wall wasn’t originally supplied or installed by us.

🚨 24-Hour Emergency Breakdown Service
When an operable wall develops a problem and needs urgent attention, our engineers are available through our 24-hour emergency breakdown service to help get your system safely operational again.

From the first order to long-term aftercare, AM WALLS manages the complete process.

One supplier. One installation team. One point of contact.

📐 Where does the wall go when it’s open?

It’s one of the most important considerations with any movable wall — and something that can easily be overlooked.

When an acoustic movable wall is opened, the panels need somewhere to stack.

Depending on the room, available space and how the area will be used, the panels can be configured to stack in different positions.

A well-planned stacking arrangement can:

✅ Keep valuable floor space clear
✅ Reduce obstruction when the wall is open
✅ Allow panels to be positioned neatly away from the main room
✅ Make day-to-day operation easier for the end user
✅ Help maximise the flexibility of the space

Sometimes the best solution is a simple end stack.

Other projects require panels to travel away from the opening into a dedicated stacking area or alcove.

The wall divides the space when you need it — and disappears neatly when you don’t.

That’s what flexible space should be about.

CASE STUDY | Village Hall, Hartlepool

It’s always rewarding to see a project develop from an initial enquiry right through to successful completion.

AM WALLS LTD was approached regarding an acoustic movable wall for a village hall in Hartlepool. The project went out to competitive tender, with enquiries sent to four different specialist companies, and we were delighted to be selected to supply and install the new system.

The Challenge

After reviewing the area and the existing building structure, it became clear that there was no suitable overhead structural support for a traditional top-hung movable wall.

Rather than introducing unnecessary structural steelwork, we proposed our ASF100 floor-supported sliding folding system.

The Solution

The ASF100 was an ideal solution for the hall, providing the flexibility to divide the space when required while allowing the system to be opened and stacked away when a larger area is needed.

The system also incorporated a communication/pass door, allowing users to move between the divided spaces without opening the complete wall. For additional peace of mind, the door includes a security lock as standard.

The panels were finished in a H1334 Oak finish, creating a warm, natural appearance that works extremely well within the village hall environment.

Installation & Handover

Our engineers completed the installation ahead of programme, followed by a full test and commissioning process.

Before leaving site, we also provided the client with a complete demonstration and operational training, ensuring the team understood how to safely open, close and operate their new ASF100 system.

And our involvement doesn’t end at installation.

A service and maintenance contract has also been agreed, helping to keep the system operating correctly and giving the village hall continued peace of mind for the future.

From an initial enquiry and competitive tender to installation, training and ongoing aftercare — another complete AM WALLS project delivered.

5 things to check BEFORE ordering an acoustic movable wall 👇

An acoustic movable wall can completely transform how a space is used — but getting the specification right starts long before the panels arrive on site.

Here are 5 things we always recommend considering:

1️⃣ Structural support
What is the system being suspended from? The correct steelwork/support above the track is essential for a safe and reliable installation.

2️⃣ The ceiling void
Sound doesn’t stop at the ceiling. If the void above the wall isn’t correctly treated, sound can travel straight over the top — potentially compromising the acoustic performance of the room.

3️⃣ What acoustic rating do you actually need?
Higher isn’t always automatically better. The required dB rating should be appropriate for how the rooms will be used.

4️⃣ Where will the panels stack?
When the wall is open, where do you want the panels to go? Correctly planning the stacking area can maximise the usable opening and keep panels neatly out of the way.

5️⃣ Check the floor level
An uneven floor can affect the operation and sealing of a movable wall. Understanding the finished floor level before installation is an important part of getting the system right.

There’s a lot more to an acoustic movable wall than choosing a finish and a dB rating.

Getting these details right at the beginning can make a huge difference to the finished installation.

A Look Back at One of Our A100 Installations 👏🏻

Last year, we completed this project for a private school in North London, supplying and installing our A100 twin-point acoustic movable wall system, achieving an impressive 50dB acoustic rating.

The system features two stacking areas, one at each end, allowing the panels to stack neatly away and maximising the clear opening when the wall is not in use.

The installation was completed in two phases. During Phase 1, our engineers installed the overhead track, allowing the main contractor to close up and complete the ceilings.

We then returned for Phase 2 to install the panels, jamb post and slam post, followed by full testing and commissioning of the system.

Finished in W1000 board with white powder-coated profiles, the completed A100 gives the school the flexibility to divide the space when required while providing 50dB acoustic performance.

Following completion, the client received their inspection sheet, completion certificate, warranty and operating manuals, along with full training on how to operate the wall correctly.

Another great example of how an acoustic movable wall can provide flexibility without compromising acoustic performance. 👌🏻

“We want everything straight and perfectly in line…”

I think our engineer may have taken me a little too literally!

Laser level out just to make sure the commissioning stickers are perfectly aligned.

All joking aside, attention to detail matters to us at AM WALLS LTD — apparently right down to the stickers!

Great work from the engineers as always. 👏

🔊 WHAT DOES THE dB RATING OF A MOVABLE WALL ACTUALLY MEAN?

When choosing an acoustic movable wall, one of the most important figures you’ll see is its dB rating — but what does it actually mean?

Simply put, the higher the acoustic performance of the system, the greater its ability to reduce sound passing from one space to another.

But there’s an important point 👇

A high-performing acoustic wall is only as good as the environment it’s installed into.

Sound can travel around the partition through:

• Ceiling voids
• Raised floors
• Poorly insulated bulkheads
• Doors and adjoining walls
• Gaps around the track or jambs
• Building services and penetrations

That’s why at AM WALLS LTD, we don’t just look at the movable wall.

We look at the complete acoustic environment.

From the supporting structure and track installation through to acoustic barriers, perimeter sealing and final commissioning, every detail can affect the finished performance.

Our movable wall systems are available with acoustic ratings up to 58dB, depending on the system and specification.

And where applicable, our acoustic performance is independently validated through the FIS Acoustic Verification Scheme (AVS).

Good acoustics aren’t just about choosing a number on a specification.

They’re about designing and installing the complete system correctly.
