Stak House - The interior design was developed around the modularity of the shipping containers. They created a regular grid that allowed us to repeat patterns efficiently inspired by Japanese architecture. Our choice of materials was driven by wanting to create a harmonious connection to surrounding forest invoking a sense of calmness.

Stak House - A study of the interior spaces.

During the design process we use programs to simulate how natural light will behave in the spaces we design. We like to explore how light penetrates different spaces. This helps us understand how a person will feel in the spaces we design as well as how they could be connected to the landscape outside.

This project was sited in the middle of a forest, it was important to understand how we might begin to draw the surrounding gardens into the house through framing and openings in the façade.

The bedroom will be furnished in natural materials creating a warm and calming space that will contrast the more expressive bathroom, that will draw on the clients memories of her time in Africa through the use of bold colours and patterns.
