New rewire starting next week for some fantastic clients of ours.

This one’s a challenge - a full rewire, a well looked after property with some awkward cable routes to navigate. That’s where experience counts, working carefully around a family’s home while keeping disruption to a minimum.

Splitting a shared electrical supply between two properties for our customer ⚡️

Both properties were sharing one fuse and intake, which UK Power Networks flagged needed separating. Stage one is done: we’ve fitted the isolation switch and a Ryefield 2-way distribution board with 100A fuse, ready for the split.

Back out next week to work alongside UK Power Networks for the changeover itself, making sure the whole process is smooth and stress-free for our customer.

Great example of the coordination that goes on behind the scenes with the DNO on jobs like this — not just wiring, but timing and planning too.

Rewire Series: The Finish 🧹⚡

Electrical work is unusual in construction - the better the job, the less you see of it. Cables buried in walls, hidden under floors, wiring routed through the loft — all invisible once we’re done. What you’re left with is a neat switch, a clean socket, a light that just works. Minimal trace we were ever there. That’s what a good rewire looks like.

But the job isn’t finished when the last circuit’s tested. On every rewire we do a full deep clean of the property, so when we hand back the keys, our clients can move straight back into their home - no dust, no mess, no reminder of the work that’s been done.

We also clear all rubbish and waste, bagged and ready at the front of the property for proper, responsible removal.

Another rewire complete, another happy customer. 🔑

Consumer Unit & Power

Preparation and planning is key.

All circuits come back to the fuse board — so agreeing the position with the client early on matters. We prep the area ready for the plasterer, get all cables in position, and make sure everything is clean, tidy, and neat.

We also run spare capping within the wall, allowing for future cables to be run up into the loft area later down the line.

On this particular job, we’ve also installed a second consumer unit in the garage — set up for garden power now, with future renewables wiring able to go back to this board too.

Here you can see the stages of the prep work. An important stage in the process, and one that needs to be finished properly.

Every loft tells a different story ..

Rewires aren’t one-size-fits-all — some homes feed from below, others (like this bungalow) mean every single drop is run from the loft down.

This week’s extreme heat made the loft a brutal place to work. But hot space or not, standards don’t drop:

✅ Cables run in trunking - contained, tidy, to client spec
✅ Fire-rated clips throughout
✅ Every drop neatly clipped, no shortcuts
✅ Junction boxes labelled and accessible
✅ Connections terminated with Wago connectors, marked up on completion

You won’t see any of this. But it’s the difference between a job that’s “done” and a job that’s done properly.

The small things you don’t see are exactly why you can trust the things you do.

Protecting the Cables & Prepping for Plastering 🧱⚡

Once every cable is run and the walls are neatly chased, the next stage is all about protection and precision.

We fit protective capping — metal or PVC — over the cables at the correct depth within the wall, securing it with metal bands. This keeps every cable held firmly in place and safely shielded before the wall goes back together.

Each back box then gets a cardboard cover. It might seem like a small detail, but it does three jobs at once: keeps the work area clean and clear so our in-house plasterer can move freely, protects the cable depth, and lets him bond and plaster right up to and over the boxes for a flush, professional finish.

Once the plastering’s done, we remove the covers and clean out every single box — so when your switches and sockets go back on, the finish is spot on.

It’s the bits you never see that we take the most pride in. Every box cleaned, every area tidied before we move to the next stage — because a smooth, efficient job is built on getting these unseen details right.

Before any rewire starts, the floors are fully protected and covered — no exceptions. We help clients move furniture and belongings, sheet up anything that needs protecting, and make sure the whole space is ready before a single cable comes out.
