So this time round I’m repurposing one of the old casements to do a moulding splice. There’s a few little blemishes to pick out still but at least this time we actually replaced like for like

It’s said over and over again… preparation is key. It’s all good and well getting the restoration element of the project done well and you neglect the overall finish.

There’s a process that needs to be adhered to which brings it’s all to that great finish you need. Anyone can paint, but can they paint well is a different story.

I am diving a lot deeper into the breathability of historic joinery and do want to test the waters with linseed which does just overall make a lot of sense.

I don’t hate resin, it has its place but I think blending a more traditional method to repairs and using resin to help is a better way forward.

Resin is costly and I can clearly see a shift in the decorating community towards using it less. This may not sit right with everyone but it works for me.

Traditional splicing…

Every day is a learning day and I’m always trying to improve. I still need to work on my splicing but it’s equally important to try understand rot and using different methods to increase longevity.

Draught proofing casement windows….

This is just one method, there are loads of options but I find this way is abit more forgiving with tight gaps as brush pile can compress best.

I will do another video on variations and AQ21(Aquamac)
