A recent study found a supercharging modification to how electric cars are charged, could allow them to fill the battery from zero to 90% in just 10 minutes, while a normal approach would take on average half an hour.

The Idaho National Laboratory deployed artificially intelligent algorithms to look at how adjusting key factors like current and voltage impacts battery ageing over time. Using computer models and testing results on actual batteries, the team designed a new charging protocol that can charge a standard EV battery to 90% in 10 minutes, whilst protecting the battery’s long-term health.

The UK Government has extended the subsidy programme for electric truck and van grants until 2025.

Businesses are continued to be supported to make the switch to electric, as the Government extends the plug-in van and truck grant by a further two years. As of April 2022, new weight classes are also added to the subsidy.

Did you know companies can apply for funding to install electric vehicle (EV) chargepoint infrastructure in parking reserved for staff or a company fleet as a small or medium sized company.

This grant can be used in conjunction with the Workplace Charging Scheme, which helps fund the installation of chargepoints, but not the cost of chargepoint infrastructure.

Both grants may be used for the same site, but not the same chargepoints.

This grant is also available for funding to install electric vehicle (EV) chargepoint infrastructure in a residential car park as a landlord, social housing provider or property factor.

The Office for Zero Emission Vehicles has announced its new digital platform for grant applications is due to launch in August (if testing goes well).

Whilst homeowners in single-use properties cannot benefit from the grant anymore; the scheme is still available for the workplace, homeowners who live in flats as well as Landlords and Tenants of rental properties.*

OZEV has also announced that they have withdrawn some chargepoints from their approved equipment list that are not compliant with the Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021.
