Turbocor compressor replacement at a major client of ours, which recently featured on BBC programme “Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond The Lobby”.

Lucky for us, the exchange was in the trusted hands of Danny Laidlaw !

We carried out a thourough recommissioning process, as with no previous history we were tasked with identifying the cause of the compressor failure.

Our observations concluded that the chilled water flow rate was low, causing a high Delta T across each flooded evaporator as flow rate was shared between the two (stand alone controlled) circuits . This lead to a high number of starts/run time ratio as the building return temp remained higher than desired. A huge waste of energy and additional strain on the compressors.

To rectify this we have suggested to install motorised ch/w valves in unison with BMS enable signal of each controller/circuit (dual control). Will coincide with the existing Lead/Lag control set up and will divert flow at design rates to 1 Evaporator at a time, increasing efficiency and operating at design parameters for the 1st time since install approx. 7 years ago.

Works to be carried out next week….

What a great week for team 💥 👊

✅ 22 year old Climate/Hitachi chiller decommissioned, refrigerant & oil decanted.
✅ Chilled water pipework disconnected and removed at local flanges.
✅ 3PH electrical supply & Trace heating disconnected and made safe.
✅ Redundant chiller lifted offsite, with brand new Daikin EWAT350 chiller lifted in place with new beams installed on Saturday Morning.
✅ Team worked effortlessly over the weekend and recommissioned electrical supplies/trace heating. With system piped to chiller and pressure tested with redesign flow reg valve, bypass and dials.
✅ Project well on its way to completion 🥳

We are now well on course for project completion with commissioning date fast approaching.

Massive shout out and thanks to laidlaw for the lift, always in safe hands 🙌🏽

What a month this week has been!! 😅😅And 2021 is well and truly underway for team with a very productive week consisting of:

☑️1st visit contract chiller PPMs
☑️Multiple site/chiller/circuit pressure leak test and repairs
☑️New purchase order instructions to carry out previously quoted remedial works throughout January & Feb
☑️Split A/C systems decommissioning & replacements
☑️More quotations for A/C system replacements at one of the group pharmaceuticals we maintain
☑️Arranged zoom/teams interviews for next week with a potential engineering candidate
☑️Survey & quotation/tender of new mechanical project work in London
☑️Site validation survey of upcoming project work we have been instructed on in a home county
☑️Most importantly, we even managed to catch up with Danny Laidlaw who we will be working closely with on a couple of projects in the coming weeks! 👊

If 2020 was a condenser coil, this is what it would look like 👇😷

It hasn’t been all bad, we have found new ways to form, build and maintain relationships, have continued to work hard and strive to better ourselves. But I’m sure we can all agree that it’s best to leave 2020 in the past and hopefully move forward to a brighter 2021!
