In designing this project, my primary focus was to establish a harmonious balance between organic forms and bioclimatic strategies.

The focal point of my design process was the building’s response to prevailing winds and solar orientation. I shaped the curved roof canopy as an aerodynamic wind scoop to guide air currents smoothly over the top deck. Alongside this, the stepped recessions of the upper storeys—which I refer to as the "Terrace Wave"—create differential pressure zones that drive exceptional natural cross-ventilation deep into the floor plates. This integration of airflow and daylight naturally dissipates heat build-up on the upper levels, drastically reducing reliance on mechanical cooling.

Regarding spatial organization, I designed the ground floor with a high-ceiling, transparent glazed façade to draw street life directly into the commercial zone. The residential levels step back in tiers so that each unit benefits from direct daylight and a private green terrace. Ultimately, the roof converts into a communal public garden sheltered under a canopy featuring an elliptical oculus and V-shaped columns.

A continuous, sculptural ribbon rises from the ground to the summit, serving as both a bold visual statement and a protective envelope. The contrast between this solid structure on the curved corner and the fully glazed curtain wall on the adjacent elevation achieves a balance between privacy, daylighting, and natural shading, while the dense terrace planting helps mitigate the urban heat island effect.

The journey toward mastery in architectural design isn't paved with passive learning; it's forged through consistent, deliberate practice. Seeing architecture as both an art and a technical discipline means every sketch, every model, and every conceptual exercise is an opportunity to grow.

How can we turn the backyard into a small garden?
