ject: a response to brief, budget and context and to clients’ and stakeholders’ aspirations and needs. We offer the leadership, empathy and vision required to translate different – and often contradictory – agendas into the best possible results. This rich mix of projects is informed by an over-arching set of beliefs. We believe that buildings should be sustainable in their construction and efficient to run. Just as importantly, we design buildings that will themselves endure: that are flexible and robust with a quality of design, detailing and construction that will withstand the ravages of time. We gain particular satisfaction from adjusting and restoring existing buildings to give them a new lease of life. And while we relish the opportunity of creating standalone modern buildings we believe that the best contemporary architecture establishes a dialogue with the past, conversing with – as opposed to arguing against – the historic context in which it lies. We design buildings that are cost-efficient to build and manage, and we make sure we build them on budget and on time.

Earlier this summer, we were pleased to attend the BCO Annual Conference 2026 in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Bringing together professionals from across the workplace sector, the conference combined expert insights with tours of award-winning projects and engineering landmarks, inspiring new ideas, challenging thinking and connecting with colleagues from across the industry.

Highlights included a tour of Bennetts Associates' transformation of Edinburgh's former Royal Infirmary into the Edinburgh Futures Institute, visits to the Kelpies and Falkirk Wheel, and congratulations to Glyn Emrys, who took part in the conference's Annual Cycle Challenge – cycling 300km from Aviemore to Edinburgh, with 3,000m of ascent, in support of charity.

It was also a pleasure catching up with Watkins Payne, along with so many familiar faces from across the industry.

Thank you to the BCO team, speakers and everyone who attended for a fantastic event!

We’re delighted that 63 Coleman has been shortlisted for Building Magazine Project of the Year at the Building Awards 2026!

The Building Awards celebrate excellence across every discipline of the built environment, recognising outstanding organisations, individuals and projects.

Delivered for CLI Dartriver, 63 Coleman transforms three outdated buildings into a contemporary workplace, carefully balancing facade retention, retrofit and new-build architecture to create a high-quality office building within the Bank Conservation Area.

Last week, members of the Emrys team – Aleyna, Pete and Cristian – spent time with students undertaking T Level industry placements with BAM UK & Ireland to share an insight into architecture, construction and life in practice.

Hosted at our Glasshouse Street project for The Crown Estate, currently under construction in London's West End, they used the scheme to talk through the design process, how projects develop from concept to construction, the different routes into architecture, and what they enjoy most about working in the profession.

A big thank you BAM UK & Ireland for organising such a worthwhile initiative. Encouraging young people from different backgrounds to explore careers in architecture and construction is essential to building a more diverse and inclusive profession, and it was a pleasure to answer their questions and share our experiences.

The steel is up and the Courtyard Building is really beginning to take shape!

Our latest site visit offered a fantastic glimpse of the transformation underway for GPE in the heart of Bloomsbury.

The Courtyard Building brings together a series of disparate buildings into one cohesive workplace, introducing a new entrance and identity on Alfred Place while ensuring accessibility throughout. At roof level, exciting new landscaped terraces and a communal event space are taking shape, while the central courtyard will be enclosed beneath a glazed roof, creating a flexible venue for events, seminars and collaboration all year round.

It's also great to see Deconstruct (DE Group) progressing the structural works using repurposed steel from a donor site ahead of Mace continuing the next phase of construction – another positive step towards a more circular approach to building.

Working alongside Elliott Wood, Sweco UK, Gardiner & Theobald, Gillespies and Studio Fractal, this is a true collaborative effort.

We are excited to announce that Albert Buildings has received planning consent!

Working on behalf of Witton Properties, the proposals will sensitively restore, refurbish and repurpose the Grade II-listed Victorian landmark. Located on a prominent triangular site at the junction of Queen Victoria Street, Cannon Street and Queen Street, the scheme will secure the building's long-term future in the heart of the City of London.

The project transforms a partially vacant office building into 39 serviced apartments, introduces a carefully integrated rooftop extension, enhances accessibility and fire safety, and establishes a long-term strategy for the reinstatement of historically sympathetic shopfronts.

Workplace experience is often shaped by the small moments as much as the headline spaces.

Here, at Berners & Wells, natural light, views, integrated artwork by the late Tess Jaray RA and informal seating help create places to pause, connect and move through comfortably, enriching the everyday experience of the building.

The design considers how people occupy and experience the workplace throughout the day. From a quiet moment by a window to an impromptu conversation between meetings, these details contribute to a more welcoming, engaging and enjoyable environment.

It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of artist Tess Jaray RA, with whom we collaborated on several projects over the years. She was fun to work with, generous and a wonderful character. Chats in her studio, accompanied by a strong coffee, were always enlightening, funny and reflected her lifelong curiosity with the world.

Our thoughts are with Tess’s family, friends and all those who had the pleasure of knowing and working with her.

Currently on site in Bloomsbury, The Courtyard Building brings together a series of existing buildings through a carefully considered retrofit while introducing a contemporary rooftop extension and renewed roofscape designed for people, planting and shared use.

One of the defining elements of the project is the restoration and repositioning of the historic cupola, returning a distinctive local landmark to prominence while creating new terraces and amenity spaces overlooking the city.

Designed for GPE, the scheme balances retention and renewal - preserving the character of the existing buildings while supporting a more sustainable, flexible and contemporary workplace.

With the recent sunshine, it feels like the perfect time to highlight one of our favourite parts at one of our latest completed projects.

Across the upper levels of , a series of landscaped roof terraces are designed as an integral part of the workplace experience, creating opportunities to step away from the desk, enjoy fresh air and connect with the city. Integrated into the scheme from the outset, they form part of a wider approach to deliver a workplace that balances commercial performance with comfort, flexibility and long-term resilience.

Equipped for year-round use with planting, seating, welfare facilities and smart-enabled awnings, they extend the building’s usable space while offering a calm retreat above the streets of the London.

Last week, Sixty Three Coleman won the Commercial & Retail Award at the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers AI Specification Awards 2026, held in conjunction with Royal Institute of British Architects

Delivered in collaboration with 3V Architectural Hardware Ltd and Forza Doors Ltd, the project was recognised for its restrained and highly considered approach to specification, where detailing, materiality and architectural language were carried consistently throughout the scheme.

Working closely together from an early stage, bespoke push plates and pull handles were developed with soft radius details that echo the curved vision panels across the building. When fire testing requirements challenged the original full-height handle concept, an innovative two-part backplate solution was developed – preserving the design intent while meeting performance requirements.

A fantastic example of collaboration, craft and problem-solving in practice.

Huge thanks to all involved, and congratulations to this year’s winners and shortlisted projects, including 3V Architectural Hardware who took home three awards!
