🚨IS RULES HAVE CHANGED . WHAT DOES THE NEW CIS EXEMPTION ACTUALLY COVER?

From 6 April 2026, payments made to subcontractors that are local authorities or qualifying public bodies are outside the scope of the Construction Industry Scheme.

This means contractors should not:

🔹 Verify these subcontractors under CIS
🔹 Make CIS deductions from their payments
🔹 Include these payments on their monthly CIS returns

However, the exemption applies to specified bodies, so businesses should confirm that the organisation receiving the payment falls within the relevant category before treating a payment as outside CIS.

Reviewing contracts and payment arrangements is essential to applying the new rules correctly.
