🏡 🧱 ✨ Another stunning transformation from Lion Restoration Ltd.

🏠 🧱 This Victorian property had been covered in cement-based render, concealing the historic brickwork and restricting the natural breathability of the masonry.

Our team carefully removed the render to reveal the original façade, allowing us to assess the condition of the brickwork and begin restoring the details that make these properties so distinctive.

Where appropriate, lime mortar is used to complement the original masonry. Its flexibility and breathability allow the brickwork to accommodate natural movement and moisture more sympathetically than rigid cement-based alternatives.

The result is a façade that not only looks more authentic, but is better suited to the way a historic building was designed to perform.

🏛️We recently completed the full restoration of this beautiful historic portico alongside our friends carefully balancing traditional craftsmanship with the requirements of conservation to some flats in Balham .

The existing delaminated mortar was carefully removed, before the damaged cornice detail was meticulously reinstated. The original profile was taken like-for-like, ensuring the replacement remained faithful to the building’s architectural character and proportions.

Throughout the restoration, we used natural lime-based materials, selected for their compatibility, breathability and suitability for historic masonry.

The completed portico was finished using a breathable KEIM mineral paint system, providing a refined, durable finish while allowing the building to continue to breathe naturally.

Part 2 - 🏠🧱✨ If you’ve seen our previous video, you’ll know just how far this stunning Edwardian property has come.

We removed the paint from the lower half, restored the original brickwork and re-pointed it in a traditional penny roll finish. We also reinstated a natural lime mortar plinth before completing a full external redecoration of the masonry and wood work.

A huge transformation, carried out with care to preserve the character and craftsmanship of the property. 🧱🏡
