has spent the HAUSPRINT Etching Year experimenting with organic forms and textures:

"This started off with studies of stones I had found on walks in the Lake District, then moved on to creating more abstract patterns through working the zinc plates with a variety of etching techniques. I then started cutting these plates into smaller and more varied geometric shapes. Finally I brought elements from this collection of material together, sometimes layering onto translucent Japanese paper, to print and collage a series of images in time for this show !"

Visit his prints at HAUSPRINT studio this weekend, Friday 4th-Sunday 6th September.

Meet Clare Winter from the HAUSPRINT Etching Year!

"I have been thinking about the ageing process, particularly how it affects women. These etchings have been transformed over time, marks added, covered up and scraped away. The finished image is something quite different to where it began."

Come and see Clare's amazing set of images at the private view on Thursday evening, 6-8pm. See you there!

This year, as part of the course designed to show students as wide a range of prints as possible, students on our HAUSPRINT Etching Year have had the opportunity to go to LOPF at Somerset House, the Wayne Thiebauld exhibition at the Courtauld, visits to the British Museum Prints and Drawing Room and the TATE Print Room and to Pauper's Press.

These visits support learning and create great opportunities to look at art- discussing together what we have all seen.

Our next HAUSPRINT Etching Year course has research trips and new visits in the planning. Want to find out more? Download the course outline from our website, DM or see link in bio

Meet the tutor Michelle Avison

Michelle Avison and Rob White work together delivering the HAUSPRINT Etching Year

Trained as a painter at the Slade School of Art, Michelle brings that experience into her printmaking.

What does this involve in your work?

"I think about making plates in layers, adjusting, deleting and adding elements to the image. I work in series- and across different plates at the same time. Sometimes I get a bit lost, but in this way I feel that I really find the image. Or it finds me!"

What do you bring to the Etching Year that is different?

"Rob and I work brilliantly together, we are different in our approaches, in that I am perhaps more experimental in the way I make plates, and images, but we both have strong technical knowledge and share a passion for teaching, and high expectations of students."

What is special about the HAUSPRINT Etching Year?

Rob and I have many years combined experience of making prints, of delivering high-quality teaching and learning, plus Rob has 20 + years professional printing experience. The students quickly come together in a cohesive and supportive group. They have a unique opportunity to work towards and deliver an end of year exhibition- it is a unique combination."

"I'm also a good organiser- so we make a great team!"
