Pascall+Watson is proud to be a headline sponsor at this year’s AIR Conference at ExCeL London.

It was a brilliant first day, with our team meeting visitors on the stand and taking part in conversations about the future of airport infrastructure.

Associate Sustainability Nimit Raval and Director Matthew Butters chaired the roundtable “Lounge to Boarding: The Next Generation of Piers and Satellites”, bringing together voices from across the built environment and airport operations to discuss the decisions shaping tomorrow’s airside infrastructure.

Matthew also took to the keynote stage to explore how we can build tomorrow’s airports without disrupting the passenger experience.

We are there today, so please do come to our stand for a chat!

Pascall+Watson's Project Director Theresa Pan was invited to join Buro Happold's annual Partners Conference in Manchester, taking part in a panel discussion alongside Peter Lederer, COO of Manchester Airport.

The discussion covered what matters most to airport operators and their stakeholder groups, and how resilience, sustainability and the quality of the passenger experience have become central measures of an airport's performance.

"It was a pleasure to contribute to this open and honest panel discussion alongside leaders from Buro Happold and MAG (Airports Group). The most successful partnerships are founded on collaboration. By taking time to listen, challenge thinking and share what we know, we can build stronger relationships, find new opportunities and achieve better outcomes together." On 25 June, Pascall+Watson welcomed Karl Mok to our studio as part of our Pride Month programme.

Karl is a Board Member of the Architecture LGBT+ Committee, a former contestant on BBC's Interior Design Masters, and the winner of the Pride Float Design 2025 for his work with OO Office on Proudspeaker, a commission for London Pride 2025 that passed through Trafalgar Square before an audience of 1.5 million people.

His talk, Designing for Queerness: Collective Voice Through Architecture, drew on the Proudspeaker project to ask what architecture's role is in making LGBTQIA+ voices visible in public space. Conceived as a co-design project with volunteers from across the profession, the float took the form of a monumental megaphone carrying a nine-by-nine metre quilt of messages, memorials and declarations: a layered, woven record of collective expression, described by the studio as 'a collective exhale'.

Designed against the backdrop of the Supreme Court's April 2025 ruling on the legal definition of gender, Proudspeaker put a direct challenge to the profession: in a climate of increasing hostility toward LGBTQIA+ people, is architecture doing nearly enough to make visibility last?

We are grateful to Karl, Oleg and Esther for joining us, and for encouraging us to think more carefully about the spaces we design, the voices they carry, and the communities they serve.

We are incredibly proud to share that Johannah Fening has been named AJ100 Mentor of the Year 2025.

As an architect at Pascall+Watson and co-lead of POC in Architecture CIC, Johannah has dedicated her time to supporting aspiring architects through mentoring, teaching, exam preparation and career development.

Over the past year alone, she has mentored students and Part 3 candidates, helped grow the reach of POC in Architecture, and created programmes that are making a measurable difference to representation, confidence and progression within the profession.

The judges praised her ability to combine personal mentorship with systemic change, creating opportunities that extend far beyond individual support. This award is a testament to her passion, leadership and commitment to building a more inclusive and accessible architectural profession.

Congratulations, Johannah – a truly well-deserved recognition.

We are proud to share a major milestone for a project that is setting new standards in airport design.

The timber structure for the Pier 6 Western Extension at London Gatwick, designed by a team comprising Pascall+Watson, alongside WSP, Mace Construct and BKHS, is now complete and standing on site.

This is London Gatwick's first building using timber architecturally.

Exposed glulam beams form a lightweight roof structure that creates warm, welcoming spaces for passengers. Long sightlines will connect passengers to the aircraft, and a clear layout supports a calm and intuitive journey through the building.

The design is honest and practical: robust where it needs to be, refined where passengers experience it most.

The extension will provide eight new aircraft stands across a two-storey satellite building, created to be operationally robust, buildable and efficient – while responding directly to London Gatwick's environmental targets.

London Gatwick recently became the first airport in the world to achieve PAS 2080:2023 certification for carbon management in buildings and infrastructure. The Pier 6 Extension embodies that commitment.

This project proves that sustainable, high-quality airport infrastructure is possible, and sets a new benchmark for future development across the London Gatwick campus.

Building with AI | Pascall+Watson x POC in Architecture CIC

Last week, we opened our studio doors to 8 architecture students and graduates from POC in Architecture CIC for our first 'Building with AI' workshop, and it was a reminder of why events like this matter.

Over the past few months, our team has been investing heavily in developing AI workflows across the practice: researching, experimenting, and learning as the technology rapidly evolves. This was an opportunity to share that work with the next generation of architects, people who will shape what our industry becomes.

Alberto Roa led a knowledge-sharing presentation on AI and generative workflows, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the tools and processes we've been developing. This was followed by a Q&A panel discussion with Pavan Birdi, Alexander Dersiley, and Clara Abrão Sachetti, where students asked sharp, thoughtful questions about both the opportunities and the responsibilities these tools bring.

The technology is exciting — but what stood out most was the conversation it sparked. Curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking were in the room in abundance.

A huge thank you to POC in Architecture CIC for making this collaboration possible, to Johannah Fening for organising such a well-run session, and to every student who brought their energy and engagement to the afternoon.

Our industry is evolving. Events like this remind us that its future is still, above all, about people. 🤝
