Project Focus | Upper Brynamman | Residential Extension
Planning Permission Granted ✔️
Planning success for this exciting project has been achieved recently. The proposal brings together two traditional stone cottages to create one carefully considered family home, while retaining flexible layout options to separate areas if needed, to accommodate family members.
What began as a simple idea to create a connecting doorway between the two cottages has developed into a much more comprehensive design — creating a home that flows naturally from one cottage to the other, alongside an exciting rear garden room extension designed to bring in more natural light and strengthen the connection with the garden.
As part of the project, Nathan Goss was initially called upon to prepare renovation and restoration notes for the existing stonework, helping to ensure the character and fabric of the cottages were properly considered within the proposals.
The client also embraced AI as a design tool throughout the process, using it to explore and develop inspirational ideas. This is a first for me but it helped her establish a clear vision, particularly around maximising natural light from the proposed porch on the south-facing front elevation.
Working collaboratively with the planners was key to achieving that vision. During the application, a small amendment to the front porch was agreed, allowing the scheme to respond positively to planning considerations without losing the design intent.
Planning permission has now been granted, allowing the client to move forward with a home that brings two cottages together, celebrates their original character and creates a flexible, light-filled space for the future. ✨
