Basin swap in a house in Walton over the weekend.

Removing a 40 year old blue Basin that had a tap that was leaking and customer decided on a new basin an pedestal - not much room in that space with the shower cubicle to the right just a 21.5" space.

Floor tiles broke when removing old pedestal, but will be getting changed at some point.

Waste pipe was old imperial pipe and smaller than 32mm.

Got the new pedestal and basin installed, piped up and sealed.

Hot water cylinder had an airlock after draining it down, had to push the air out and hot water restored.

Happy customer.

Wash Hand Basin change yesterday for a customer in Walton.

The original blue suite had been in over 40 years, a few years ago the bath was removed for a walk shower enclosure which the wall on the right is part of.

The floor tiles broke when removing the pedestal as the tile had been cut around it and cemented in place but do to a leak on the sink it had loosened the cement and the tiles lifted.

A bathroom revamp.

This house the bathroom was done 10+ years ago and the installer (no plumbing background) used a manifold to divert the hot and cold around the bathroom l it had no isolation valves and due to a leak tiles had to be smashed off to access the leak.

the hot water is from a cylinder, so not mains pressure.

Due to the manifold this made the water pressure from the taps very low and to combat this a shower pump was installed behind the boxing.

the depth of the boxing around the room was 12" on the window side, the wall facing was 3 1/2" and the side walls a further 3 1/2" both sides.

the window sills were so deep the windows couldn't be opened.

after removing the old suite, tiles and boxing in the room looked alot bigger and allowed more light into the bathroom.

After removing the cracked and broken floor tiles the floor was rotten and weak so had to be removed and 22mm Moisture resistant chipboard were installed.

with the floor now fixed the suite and pipework could then be installed along with new wastes for both the bath and wash hand basin.

Isolation valves installed on the pipework so that should a leak happen in future they are easily accessible to isolate the bathroom.

The customer chose to do the wall coverings themselves to keep costs down.

Before and after of a bathroom refurbishment

Customer was doing the wall coverings themselves.

The old bathroom had been studded out and then tiled and on one wall (window) side the studding had come out away from the original wall by 12" and on the wall facing it a further 3" had been studded and tiled with the same 3" off each of the side walls.

Due to the pipework there was very low water pressure which was then using a shower pump to try and boost the pressure.

After removing the old suite and radiator, I was then able to remove all the tiles and stud work and then strip the plumbing back to basics.

This made the bathroom much bigger and felt more light.

the original floor was rotten from leaks and required changing so installed 22mm moisture resistant chipboard.

With the new floor in, the new suite, pipework and waste could then be installed and tested.

With water pressure now restored in all taps the bathroom.is now useable.

Today's Job - Sunday

Removed old close-coupled toilet and wash hand basin and installed a new concealed toilet and wash hand basin in vanity units.

I started by assembling the flat-pack vanity units, and then moved on to removing the WC and boxing in.

Installed the WC and vanity unit and then moved on to the wash hand basin removing the old one and boxing in and then installing the middle vanity unit and then the wash hand basin vanity unit.

Altered the pipework and waste pipe and tested.

It looks a lot nicer now compared to the old look.
