Seeing Liverpool recognised last month as one of the world’s leading Sustainable Cities made us think about how far our regional sustainability strategy has come in recent times.

It’s a remarkable milestone to be featured in the 2026 Oxford Economics Global Cities Index because not long ago, expert commentators were pointing out the big gaps in our regional sustainability strategy.

We’d say achieving this turnaround is down to collective ambition, targeted climate action, and forward-thinking urban regeneration.

From pioneering low-carbon infrastructure to driving inclusive growth and world-leading innovation, it genuinely feels like Liverpool is slowly proving that economic prosperity and environmental sustainability go hand in hand.

We’re curious to see how the city continues to build on this momentum of ranking in the global top 100 for environmental performance and how it can attract investment for a greener future.

Could be a good property panel event at some point in early 2027?

Looking back as the seasons change to last month on a warm day in Llanrug, North Wales…on site for a residential project working for a private client.

We’ve had some great feedback from them, particularly focused on what our brand stands for - being close to the client throughout, from the initial concept to the outcome.

We had one of the best speakers in the business to re-launch the FBE Liverpool branch last Thursday morning.

Thank you Chris Bolland, everybody could tell that you’ve been living and breathing the Kings Dock scheme probably every day of your life since you started work on it!

What a brilliant presentation. And what a scheme that will continue to put Liverpool out there as a city of great potential within property circles and the wider market.

80 people, a complete sellout and 57 different firms were in the room last Thursday morning at Hill Dickinson.

Property and construction is a niche business and we know from overwhelming feedback that the return of the network in the city is much needed.

As the new FBE Liverpool board secretary, I’d like to thank my colleagues, vice chair Sam B**r for arranging the venue and details, plus treasurer Jake Busby and the Board’s PR & marketing representative Joel Jelen for their input and contribution leading up to and on the day of the event.

My appreciation also goes to Lorraine Wake and her colleagues who had a really early start to make everything look slick at 8am in the morning at Hill Dickinson LLP.

Finally, saving one of the best til last…

Congratulations to Will Jones MRICS for his sterling efforts prior to the event in leading the AGM and on becoming chair of FBE Liverpool.

A very good introductory speech well delivered and I know he is keen, as is the rest of the board to reveal our forthcoming itinerary of events for the autumn and winter season very soon.

Pleased to reveal Nolan Construction’s conversion of an old station house into a holiday home for a private client in the shadow of Snowdonia.

Our project has come a long way in six months, from shovelling through snow in deep midwinter to heatwaves this summer.

On site last week in Snowdonia gave me the opportunity to share how we help our clients…

This major domestic refurbishment, a holiday home for a lovely family, enabled me to explain how we can help with this type of project.

We took total control for the client who had never done anything like this before.

We sat with the architect to make sure the detail was understood.

We then employed building control, structural engineers, did some of the planning with the architects and then reviewed all the materials, and took the client through the budget.

We made some really good suggestions on site, the site is now live and running, everyone’s happy and things are progressing at the right pace.

MY DAD & MORE TO LIFE THAN A GREAT WEEKEND AWAY…by Andy Nolan

Please read & please take something away from below!

I followed Liverpool home and away. Into Europe. Anywhere the draw sent us.

I actually bought five full-size replica European Cups? Why?? No idea tbh, just sounded like a good idea in 2005!

Great weekends. Great company. I wouldn’t swap a minute of it, and I’d do ALL of it again tomorrow, all with the same people in the same European destinations with the same banter.

But somewhere between Istanbul and Athens, something shifted. Something changed, maybe I just got wiser? Tbh, I’m not clever enough to know what changed it just did!

Two of the biggest nights of my life — and the thought I brought home with me wasn’t about where the next away trip was. It was about what I was actually building while I was away.

Look closer to home. Look at your business. Look after your staff.

Because the truth is, chasing the big occasion is the easy bit. Anyone can enjoy the final. The hard bit is the Tuesday night in February when nothing glamorous is happening, it’s cold, it’s wet, no one else is there but your business partner and the work still has to be right.

That’s construction. Nobody claps you for a well-sequenced programme. Nobody posts a photo of a job that finished on time with no drama. But that’s the job — and the people who do it week in, week out are the ones worth investing in.

A few things I’ve learned, mostly the slow way:

→ Culture isn’t built at the big event. It’s built in the ordinary rooms.
→ The people who turn up when you’re 2-0 down are the ones you build a business around.
→ You can buy a table. You can’t buy loyalty.
→ Consistency beats occasion. Every single time.

For the last eight years and more, I’ve watched every Liverpool game with my dad. He’s 84 now.
It’s been a sharp learning curve for him — his living room full of me, my nephews, my brother-in-law, my mates.

The language is choice at times. The volume is up there. The white w**e can be expensive — though he’s more than happy with a Blue Nun, but I guarantee that he always drinks my Sancerre before his Blue Nun!

He’s the reason Nolan Group exists. He’s the standard I measure the work against. And he’s never once been impressed by a title, a turnover figure or a headline — which is exactly what I’ve needed.

So: thank you, Dad. For keeping me grounded when I could easily have got carried away. For teaching me that how you treat people is the business, not a nice extra on top of it.

No matter how hard we work, some weeks I genuinely think NOT having a corporate table at Anfield is the bonus. Watching the match in my dads with family and friends beats sitting on the Kop!

Because you can’t get that living room in a hospitality box.

QUESTION: Who’s the person who keeps you grounded?

Ps. Cherish your dad!!

Disclaimer: picture taken in my far younger sisters, and NOT one of our site! lol

No PR spin above just a genuine thank you to my dad pre season ❤️⚽️🍺
